I've noticed it buffers when trying to play video I've captured via the phone too

The most likely cause would be your WiFi bandwidth I'd have thought.

I've had great success improving WiFi performance by changing the channel used by the router to a less congested one. I use an app called WiFi analyser on my Android tablet to identify the best channel to use.

Fiddling with router location can also give good results. I turned mine through 90 degrees and it made a massive difference.

Is the apple TV connected with WiFi as well as the iOS device? Ideally any fixed devices should use a cable if possible. Double hopping from phone to router then router to ATV is also going to massively effect streaming. If a cable is not a possibility it might be worth looking at Powerline network adapters as an alternative

I'm not very techie

But yes iphone is on wifi
Apple TV is on wifi

I've looked a istumbler on my macbook to look at channel which is 6 and everything thing else near me is 11 or something else

I'll see if there is a wifi analyser type app for iphone

As for setup
My wifi router, fibre box, sky box, telephone, ps3 is all in my tv unit along with my Apple TV

So you're saying to connect Apple TV to router with a wire? What wire do I need?

A wire may help, its faster and more stable, its called an Ethernet cable like this:

Make sure wireless is switched off on the apple tv or it might stay connected through that.

Thanks for the tip of using a cable for the Apple TV to router

Before viewing videos captured on iphone would buffer for seconds and now instant almost

Other movies would stutter at times but an hour test and seemless

Just need better speakers now lol
