2.0 vs 2.1 soundbar

Local L/lord requires a sound bar to provide better (better = louder) volume during sports broadcasts. He is going to mount the bar above the TV.
Been looking at the LG 2430 which is a 160 W 2 channel bar. It is < £100 at Argos. The alternative is the 2530 which is a 2.1 system but 2x30 + 40W Sub at a similar proce.
His budget will run to about £170 but in my mind the better output of the 2.0 will be a better quality/cost compromise than a 2.1 system for Sport.
Any comments?
