I'm planning on getting something like a Soundlink mini and was wondering if anyone on here has experience with them and what your thoughts are. Any other systems I should consider?

I have had one for the best part of the year and think it is amazing for it's size. It replaced a full sized SoundLink which sounded a little bit better still, but then it is a box of about 3 times the size and weight and 50% more expensive.

I can't think of anything else that competes with the SoundLink Mini in terms of size. It is not a Hi-fi system of course, but nothing else of a similar size comes remotely close for me.

I am not a Bose fan, but I think that no one can touch them in this sector or the noise cancelling headphones. Everything else they do can be bettered at a quarter of the price for me.

We have one, use it for Holidays. Great for sitting in the center console of the golf buggy smile

Thanks guys, went down to Bose today to have a listen and blooody hell! It is amazing for it's size. Tried the full sized version and to be honestl I couldn't really tell the difference in quality apart, the SL3 does go a bit louder. Needless to say I've come home with a mini, however the sound seems to be a bit restrained at the moment, not as bassy or full sounding as the demo in store. Does it need "running in"?

It shouldn't do. I found the best sound and most convenient operation comes from turning the volume on the Bose to 100%, and the controlling the volume on the phone itself.

That's worked a treat Kingston, thanks!

Chuffed with the purchase, it produces a really nice sound regardless of it's size.

They are quite surface dependant and do sound better when lifted on the cradle, all to my ears of course.

Late to this as I've just bought a SoundLink Mini ver 2.

Firstly, I'm quite pleased. Easy to connect and it sounds great for this kind of device. Better than other travel speakers I've ever used.

Just a few interesting points.

The volume is directly linked to the device (on OSX IOS via bluetooth).

It's a great garden speaker. Plenty of base in the open air.

Indoors I find the base level excessive if the volume is raised slightly.

But when indoors the base is can be reduced by moving the rear firing (or directed) speaker further from any back walls.

Interestingly when you raise the volume it sounds much better, but that's not really great in a hotel room.

I've had it playing for the last 12 hours and the (spooky voice) says that it's still at 80%.

I'm very chuffed. So......

Play with the position.

It's very good at the high frequencies, and when you position it correctly, can be great at base for something this size.

Like most of these things there is a huge amount of compromise. This thing produces (at times) astonishing base at the almost complete loss of midrange frequencies.

The highs and lows are great. If you don't like Bass heavy sounds, avoid unless you're using it outside

bought a V1 a couple of weeks ago, listened to one in currys and it sounded rubbish compared to a sonos 1 so bought the sonos instead. A couple of weeks later I was in a bose outlet and listened to it again, sounded much better so ended up buying it, especially with £40 off. Still not as good as the sonos but for the size i'm impressed. Currently using it mostly as a speaker for the upstairs tv which may as well have not had speakers fitted they were that bad.
Used it once outside and was surprised how well it sounded.
Unfortunately i now want/need another sonos and mini smile
