A few years ago I listened to a friends BK sub (not a Monolith) and was very impressed with its depth and slam compared to by old 8" Paradigm (which I still liked a lot for the money). After 15 years my Paradigm has died so I'm 'in the market'. I'm very close to going with the Monolith just based on stuff I've read, but want to know if theres anything (used/new whatever) that compares. Will be used at lower volumes for TV/films and generally higher volume for music. Its running with some Mordaunt Short Genie satellites.

Ta!

Apart from a used Monolith (worth looking on AVforum's classifieds where I sold mine for about £275 a while back), then there is an SVS alternatives the SVS SB1000:

Also consider the BK XLS400 which is sealed rather than ported; slightly lower output, but possibly more controlled especially with music.

FWIW I had mine for about 6 years and upgraded the drive for the 'Plus' version as I blew the original one being a bit too greedy with the volume. I've replaced it with a pair of 15" sealed 1500 watt DIY subs which cost 3 x the price of a new Monolith, which gives you some idea of what I had to spend to get a worthwhile improvement.
