Hi,

Ive moved away from a Virgin area and am saying goodbye to my trusted TiVo box frown

I want to get a freeview recorder and cant decide between a youview box or generic freeview+ box? any suggestions

Price circa £150, can only connect via wifi

I'm looking at a Humax DTR-1000 plus a TP link wifi adapter which together come to £140

I've no interest at this stage to subscribe to extra channels

A simple Freeview+ box only gives record and playback features, Youview gives you the 7 day catch up (iPlayer, ITV Player,4OD and Demand 5) as well.

Who is your new provider? If TalkTalk SAY NO to the TV no matter how hard they push (and they really do get upset when you say no) as its free.

Reason they are so pushy is when you take the TV package from them they automatically halve the available bandwidth for your internet and dedicate it to the IP associated with their Youview box. (they don't tell you this though).

Also this is permanent even when your not using the TV or youview box it doesn't dynamically adjust the available bandwidth so take the free tv and loose half your Internet capability.

Grab a Freesat HDR like a HUMAX and be done with it most have network connections to access on demand Iplayer ITV 5demand 4od e.t.c.

Thanks TinyCappo, we're with BT right now but looking to change to a cheaper provider. Bit nasty TalkTalk slice up your broadband without telling you, we only get about 11mb at the moment.

I decided to buy a Panasonic direct refurb DMR-HWT130 as it had a wifi dongle option and Viera smart TV stuff (we currently use Netflix through the Wii frown ) and really wasnt too fussed about the catch up youview extras, anything I want to watch I'll record

Seemed reasonable for £89 and is from Panasonic's own Ebay Store
