Our old TV is dying. It's an old Panasonic CRT flatscreen widescreen. It is about 10 years old so has done quite well.

We are looking for a 32" replacement and we're thinking of getting a Samsung mainly because Which seem to rate it.

The model is the Samsung UE32H6400.

I wondered if anyone on here had one and what their experiences of it had been.

Also interested in any other 32" recommendations.

Thanks.

First off, how big was the CRT, By chance was it a 32"????

TV's now are pricy at the smaller size 32" or you sacrifice on features. I would typically look at nothing smaller than 42" to replace a 32" CRT mainly because the size of the bezel makes the screen look soo much smaller.

Panasonic Screens are made by LG BTW, but I like the user interface on the panasonic personally and the remote is good.

My advice is to got to Currys/Richer sounds, and look at the screens, play around with the remote (you will spend more time holding this then they wify!)

Budget around £350 for a 42" Non Smart or £450 for Smart, I however would go non smart and get an apple tv certainly if you are an iPhone/iPad user.

We have this one same size, the smart TV function is very good but the sound is poor I hear sound is an issue on these modern slim TV's the older ones used to have bigger speakers now they sell you a sound bar which is extra! When I say poor you just have to crank the volume up to 30! But it's not in a big room hence the small size anything bigger would look council house comical in the room we have it in.

Its a 28" crt.

It's not a particularly large room and I think a 42" would dominate it.
We typically sit around 8 feet from the TV.

This is the reason we decided to get a 32". The overall size of the 32" Samsung is exactly the same size as the crt.

There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of choice at that size which is why we fell back on Which's opinion of what to get.

I'm planning on going to Currys later to have a play.

What do you think of the TV we are thinking of getting?

I have heard that the sound isn't as great as CRT tvs because of the room and you need a sound bar.
We were planning on seeing if it was really that bad and going from there. Sounds like it is.

I forgot to as...what do you think of the picture?

I'm not a fan of the trend towards massive screens.

They look crass and as you say, can dominate a room quite easily.

I went with a 37" in our family room which is a nice compromise.

32" in bedrooms.

Although we do have a larger one in another room for when I want to watch something like Gravity with all its effects laden glory.

All our sets are Samsung and have proven to be excellent. Just remember to properly calibrate them using settings found on the net. I simply can't watch TV at my in laws as the colour palette is so annoyingly garish.

Larger screens do tend to offer more room for calibration, you may find smaller screens limit you to presets.

For HD the screen hight multiplied by 6 gives you the optimum viewing distance.

Gets some sheet of paper and make up the screen size and put on the wall wear the TV will be and see what looks big and not.

32" 71cm x 40cm
42" 93cm x 52cm
55" 122cm x 68cm
65" 142cm x 80cm

These are rough sizes and don't include any bezel.

We bought a 42" LED to replace the outgoing 42" Plasma and the LED looks soo much smaller, we wish we had bought a 55".

I went and had a look at them, liked it and bought one.

I'll let you know what I think when it is up and running although compared to our old CRT it is going to be great.
