Virgin Media multiroom?
Discussion
We have 2 Virgin (non TiVo) boxes one upstairs and the other in our lounge. We are building a 2 storey extension and would like to be able to share the signal from the existing boxes rather than shell out for 2 further boxes plus installation etc.
one of the boxes is located just the other side of a wall fiorming part of the new room downstairs so it would be easy to drill a hole through the wall and run a cable through. The downstairs box is also connected to a Pioneer LX 85 receiver which is hooked up to our wireless network.
Any thoughts on how we could do this or is it a new Virgin box ?
Cheers

I would say you could split the HDMI output and run a cable upstairs but that means you have no functionality ie to change channels you have to go downstairs etc . We just have extra virgin Boxes a Tivo and old hd and 2 basic cisco would like another tivo so we can record and watch elsewhere.

There's plenty of options for control. So that doesn't have to be an issue. If you're running any further than 10M or so then a cat 5 HDMI extender would be advisable rather than a cable IMO, they often include the facility to transmit the IR to the source or you can get various cabled and RF Wireless devices for transmitting IR.I believe VM now have an app for the guide, does that offer control like the Sky+ app does?
Thanks for the replies. JimbobVFR, forgive the numpty question but could you explain how the cabling would work? Would I run a cable from the Virgin box or via the receiver? What kind of device and cable would I need to be able to change channel remotely using an app on an iPhone or iPad?
Thanks
