I should add that our first 48" was £7800 and the 50" was £15000

Then Panasonic joined the market with the 50" and I was excited!
Funnily enough, I just sold exactly that 50" Panasonic last year!

I got it used from someone when it was about 3 years old in 2004 who had more money than sense that bought it new - it retailed at £14,000 if I remember rightly!

It was a monster, and worked perfectly until I sold it.

Problem was it predated even 'HD Ready'. There was enough pixels for 1080 IIRC but no HDMI ports and the TV couldn't size HD to the screen properly, so I had to get a newer model in the end.

I've decided to go for the 60 inch Samsung UE60U7000.

I took my wife to currys tonight thinking that she would hate it, but I showed her all the sets I was considering and she wanted the largest TV available for our budget smile
What she may be about to discover is that they look a lot smaller in the shop biggrin

smile

It arrived yesterday and it looks fecking huge! My daughter physically stepped back in shock when walked into the room.

60 was definately the right choice.

Wow, I remember a mate buying an early 40inch, and it was over 5k.

Cardboard template is a good idea, but it will look huge; your wife will think it's ridiculously huge; and when you take it out of the box after you've bought it you'll both think it's absolutely massive.

But then after a couple of weeks of watching it you'll both agree that it's a good size, and could even get away with having a bigger one.

This x 100!!
Well we lasted a weekend!

On Friday I was stunned at the size and detail from the screen. On Saturday I was just watching TV. By Sunday night I was wondering what a 65 inch would look like smile

So the correct answer to my original question is..... 65 inches and above!

Very nice - same as me! 802s HTM1 and FPM6s side and rear. Black ash too, even the original ones like you.

It actually makes the TV look smallish!

For the benefit of the OP though, in that size room, you'll get used to 65 inch.

To start with it looks a bit strange. 8 years ago when we had our 63 inch fitted to the wall, the youngish installer asked if he could take a photo with him in to show his mates. That was a 5 by 5 room. Now that size is pretty much commonplace.
What's amp/source are you using Justin? My new amp arrived yesterday so I'm just waiting to finish for teh day so I can go and play with my new toy woohoo

My Lounge is 6.5m and we have a measly 48in the corner! I am not going to lie, it doesn't look big, but it certainly doesn't look too small?

Surely you chaps with smaller rooms must have square eyes? Id love to see some pictures of your rooms so I can see how big it looks in the corner?

However in fairness I do have another room in the house with a 120inch Projector Screen - so we have tried to keep the Lounge for socialising and watching every day TV and the Cinema room for watching more interesting TV (Footy, F1, Films etc)

Here is my room. Please ignore the crappy TV stand and mess to the right - we've only had the house for a couple weeks and haven't got round to replacing furniture and hanging pictures yet.....

MAC BEING A PAIN IN THE ARSE WILL UPLOAD PIC LATER.

Crap. That should have said 42" was £7800 and the 50" was £15000. The 42" we started selling when there were only 1 or 2 panel manufacturers. We had a 50% failure rate and so the £7800 actually paid for 2 screens to be made. (that was acknowledged by the manufacturer). My first 50" install was for a tech nerd that had done very well. He told me he was going to buy a Ferrari 360 and drive it back from the factory but couldn't decide if it should be coupe or convertible. I joked both. On my next visit both were parked in his garage. Very nice man and, despite the image portrayed by my Ferrari story, very down to earth.

My cousin in Switzerland has an 84 inch smile

My wife just commented on how the TV now looks normal size.
