A reliable PVR?
Discussion
The Problem is that very few makers stick with the Freeview PVR market. I would lift the lid on the Sony and see if the Disk has the Original makers label om it. You should be able to source one from EBAY or a local Computer shop. You should also be able to upgrade it to a 1TB without needing to worry about the Disk limit as well. On HUMAX's you do need to format the drive and I would expect the Sony to need it as well. If possible avoid drives that have "intelligent" power saving. I believe the WD Blue and some Seagate Barracudas should fit the bill.
OK, I opened it up and the HD is a Western Digital SATA 32Gb cache. But I get the impression that any replacement HD will fail in 2-3 years due to overheating.
So how about an SSD? www.scan.co.uk/products/512gb-crucial-mx100-25-7mm...
Can it be that simple?
NB To my surprise, when I removed the box to open it, the bottom was very warm - even though it wasn't on!

Got the previous version of this: http://www.richersounds.com/product/blu-ray/panaso...
Wanted the DVD recording as well as the twin tuner HD PVR. It's never missed a beat in 3 years and is so much better than the Sony PVR in the kitchen.

Can you back this sort of thing up? So I have a NAS which has the headroom to easily back this thing up - is it discoverable on a network as a filesystem and then just back the things up onto the NAS?Wanted the DVD recording as well as the twin tuner HD PVR.
