I would recommend getting a pair with detachable / replaceable cables as, in my experience, this is where problems are most likely to occur...

Following up on this topic...I have an old set of Sennheiser (not sure what model) in ear headphones, mainly used on longer journey's in a Caterham .... but they have seen better days.

I'm mainly looking for blocking external engine/exhaust noise rather than excellence in sound quality....and they have to be comfortable ....let's say for 2 hours of continual use.

Given that requirement....what are the collective recommendations to add to my Xmas list ? Still the Soundmagic E10's ?

Ideally under £50 but will stretch the budget for the right product.

Thanks

Get some Shure Olive tips, they block out a lot of noise.

For blocking external noise, a balanced armature IEM is best, the Sennheiser you have and the Soundmagic E10 are dynamic IEMs. Soundmagic PL50 is a good choice, great isolation and great sound for the money (around £50).
Etymotic are the best for isolation, Shure and Westone are very good too.

As said, the tips/sleeves are important for blocking out noise too, Comply foam, Shure olives and Westone star tips are the best available, short of going custom moulded tips.
