Been toying with the idea of buying a pair of 2nd hand KEF eggs (3001) as bookshelf speakers for an old separates HiFi system... any reason why I should not consider this?

Limited bass response? That's the only reason I can think of smile

I don't know how much you can get them for, but unless you have a specific reason for wanting them I wouldn't bother personally.

There are plenty of other, better speakers out there, particularly for stereo listening.

Wharfedale 9.1 to name but one - which can be had for around £100 new (were £200 when they first came out) - or used on Ebay for around £50 depending on condition.

As the 2nd post says - bass will be quite limited - the Kefs were designed to be used with a subwoofer.
