Boston Acoustic M25 speakers
Basic Denon Amp
Rega RP1 Turntable with (newly added) Performance pack
All under 8 months old, performance pack added a much much better cartridge (Bias 2) along with some other bits and it all sounds amazing to my ears. Have got a long way to go until I can get the very nice tube amps that I so crave but I bought speakers that should be good enough to last a few years and the turntable is upgradable even further

Most of my stuff is 25-30 years old.
Rotel pre & power amp
Technics turntable
Technics graphic equaliser
Denon cassette deck
Mordant short floorstanders - all of these are circa mid-late 80's
I think my Sony CD player is late 90's
I keep meaning to upgrade the turntable as it's quite basic and I keep getting drawn to those Technics pre/power amps which have the analogue needle level meters on the front - so cool but big bucks.

Arcam Delta 290 amp, bought new in 95.
Marantz CD 52 SE bought new in 95.
Mission 773i speakers, bought new in 2003.
Cambridge Audio Dacmagic 2, bought secondhand.
Still going strong, the missions are the third pair of speakers and what really let the system down, the Arcam gets crackly on the mode switch sometimes, all in all, still a very nice sounding system.
P.S , My Wife hates it.

Don't waste your money on the Technics Kit, unless you go for the super high end SE-A1/3/5 & SE-A2000/3000/7000 power amps and associated preamp (and be prepared to take a 2nd mortgage for one of those!).Rotel pre & power amp

The 'lower' end stuff SE-A909/1000/1010 (which has been selling for hideous money on Ebay recently) is no better (and probably worse) than your Rotel kit, and the output IC that these use (the very heart of the power amp) has been obsolete for years - so blow that and your amp is an expensive doorstop.
Your Rotel kits uses easily replaceable transistors.

My wife doesn't seem to mind; our living room(s) has been dominated by Hi-Fi and AV kit for the past 25 years. Caprirob's hankering after Technics power amps with meters made me smile; I've considered them in the past, even though they sound average at best.
25-30 year old Rotel kit is likely to be 800 series; the power amps were great. The later 900 series power amps seem to be growing in reputation and often fetch the same or more on E-bay than when they were new. The user reviews below rate them very highly; I use six 900 series power amps to run my active speakers and Red997, earlier in the thread, uses six Rotels to power his active Linn Isobariks.

not necessarily...I mentioned about changing my Isobariks the other weekend - got a resounding 'no' from the Mrs - said she like them too much and they sound great, and looked good in the lounge !
I am blessed.....

The two exceptions to all wives hate kit rule have something in common. They're both multi way active systems and both use six Rotel power amps. Its the way forward Edited by Crackie on Wednesday 28th January 13:31

The speakers on my PC setup are from the 70s, unsure of the exact year. They're Celestion UL6s and they still sound great! What they're connected to (Denon DM39 mini system) is pretty much brand new though. They do dwarf my screen a bit, which is 27" so not exactly small. Great speakers though.
