A friend of mine has 7 sky boxes in his house, five are hd the other 2 are normal boxes. He has the top package on all. How much will he be paying??
Not as much as you'd think, maybe £150pm?

I have HD, Movies, Fibre Optic and line rental with them and mine is £59pm.

My colleague got a renewal deal after 12 months, I called them and asked why I hadn't been given a deal after 3 years with them, they knocked some money off and I re-signed for another 12 months.

It's pretty easy, you just have to be firm!

Same here - just change the name every 12 months.

Do these figures people are quoting include line rental? We're with virgin at the moment and I couldn't make sky cheaper 'off the shelf' when I considered moving to sky. The fact our mobiles are cheaprr as virgin customers helps, but the contract increases the price if we leave tv/broadband.

The recent increase was a nice christmas surprise, I seem to remember a similar increase not that long ago. We've fallen for the mobile deal hook, line and sinker it seems as it's all been clawed back in short time.

The £36 a month guy a few posts above- no, that will be TV only.

Mine is just a shade under £50, which is the TV plus phoneline (broadband is free).

Anyone have any experience of BT/YouView?

They seem to be offering some decent TV/broadband/phone bundles at the moment with the option of bolting Sky Sports on for £15 a month which is tempting.
I just blew sky out, no retention offers made, I was on the legacy pack which i guess they want people off now ( thats the one with free F1) and went to BT/youview.

Got a good deal including a £150 sainsburys voucher 1/2 price fibre broadband for 6 months and some additional TV channels.
Its a poor relation to sky, the catch up stuff is a sh*t picture as is the extra channels(both streamed, but the sky box is just far better at the catch up
and it will also record them)
No magic eye facility on the box so pumping it into another room is costly
The phone line can not receive incoming calls since switchover (over a month now) and I cant get any satisfaction from BT. Their service is quite frankly appalling and trying to get this resolved is seriously testing my metal.

So if you switch be aware if there are any problems it may take some tenacity...

But yes as others have said, if you can sacrifice some channels and be content with netflix etc then you can save a fair bit

We have TV only - not phone / ADSL.
Having had as much as 75% off in the past - and other deals - the best this time was 33% off - for five years (minimum term one year). The MiL was given the same deal a couple of months ago.
A worthwhile discount - but what if we had cancelled - what would they have come back with after a few weeks ? However MrsMercs will not live without SkyPlus !

Think you will seriously regret going to Virgin
I have Sky, full package, HD,1 multiroom, broadband (14mb), telephone anytime and pay just under £100.
Quite happy, no quibbles, no hassle. The price goes up now and again but only in small amounts.
We have Virgin "Big Cahuna" package (which is all but Sky Sports and Sky movies), phone (free weekend calls), two TiVo boxes, one V+ box, 152Mb broadband and Spotify premium. £82 a month.

The broadband alone means I'm not going to change.

Also working in the same building as a load of mouth breathing mong Sky call centre staff doesn't endear me to them. Pond life.

Thanks for the compliment, tt. We can't all be company directors, powerfully built or not. Cockend.

I doubt many have anything nice to say about Sky staff. It's nothing personal

On the contrary, Sky's 'Net Promoter Score' (what customers think about Sky) is at its highest level for years.

It's a killer deal if it does.
Hi,

Yes that's the full TV package including Sky Sports and Sky Movies. It's actually £38.25 now (went up a couple of quid this year - I think something to do with the way they sell the HD package).

I just ring them up when the deal expires and tell them I'm going to cancel and they say will you stay with us if we extend the deal for another 12 months. I don't change any names, details etc.

It doesn't include my phone or broadband, I get that through work anyway.

After 11 years at approx £90/month, all they offered me was 50% discount on my broadband for 6 months.

Lady on the phone didn't even bother trying.

So, with that i dumped the lot and now use Freeview, catchup and Netflix etc.

I have also signed up for Plusnet Fibre Extra and with line rental comes in around £30/month.

However, my phone now rings with the song of the retentions department, which i have yet to pick up to see what they are offering.

Why does it have to go down this route when it could have easily been tried when i was cancelling?

i pay nearly £90 a month, for full tv package (expect sports) telephone line & internet.
Unfortunately i am unable to get anything else as the internet in my area is so poor, (1.5mb download) if i had fibre i'd leave and use netflix with freeview

Been with Virgin for many years, every so often they put the price up and like others I phone up and say I am leaving etc etc and they leave it at the same price.
Couple of years back they played the hard game and would not move so we agreed about a cancelation date, wife was panicking as she does not like change and I told her lets play the waiting game, surely enough a week before the cancelation they rung and agreed to leave the price the way it was.
Couple of months ago same happened, price was going to increase by about £8 monthly, phoned up and was given an additional box(Tivo) and my internet upgraded to 152 mb from the 50 mb I had before and all this at the same old price.
Power is in your hands guys, they are cheeky as they give discounts to new customers and the loyal customers suffer so give them some back.

well i had the call today from Sky. Later than expected but pleased with the offer of £40 a month for current package which is £22 off and £10 better than what they offered last week. They also gave me £20 credit so i could buy a new remote control and the discount stands for 12 months with no contract.

deal!

I left Sky last year and re-joined at about 50% of what I was paying, fixed for 12 months.

However, I just got the usual price increase letter - within the 12 months fixed price deal - increasing it by 10%.

Can they do this?

Yes, because the rise is 10% or less and your offer is 50% off whatever the price is, not a fixed amount.
