Anyone have any experience of BT/YouView?
They seem to be offering some decent TV/broadband/phone bundles at the moment with the option of bolting Sky Sports on for £15 a month which is tempting.
I just blew sky out, no retention offers made, I was on the legacy pack which i guess they want people off now ( thats the one with free F1) and went to BT/youview. Got a good deal including a £150 sainsburys voucher 1/2 price fibre broadband for 6 months and some additional TV channels.
Its a poor relation to sky, the catch up stuff is a sh*t picture as is the extra channels(both streamed, but the sky box is just far better at the catch up
and it will also record them)
No magic eye facility on the box so pumping it into another room is costly
The phone line can not receive incoming calls since switchover (over a month now) and I cant get any satisfaction from BT. Their service is quite frankly appalling and trying to get this resolved is seriously testing my metal.
So if you switch be aware if there are any problems it may take some tenacity...
But yes as others have said, if you can sacrifice some channels and be content with netflix etc then you can save a fair bit
the broad band is decent, holds a pretty good speed and the router gives decent coverage of the flat. the TV has an ok selection of channels, a few in HD, a few others such as discovery, national geographic etc... that make it a bit better than normal freeview. the recording/playback is good, not had any issues at all with that, and it links up pretty well to catch up stuff, got direct links to iplayer, itv player etc.....
i dont watch masses of tv, but i'm fairly happy with it.
I've had Virgin 50mb fibre broadband for a while now and it's brilliant - £25 pcm. No phone line. I don't see why people bother with landline phones nowadays when most mobile contracts have unlimited calls.
I wanted Sky Sports and F1 so I got Virgin TV installed last month. I wouldn't recommend it. I was disappointed with TiVo, the available channels and I was even more disappointed when they told me that I'd have to pay an extra £7 pcm to get the Sky Sports channels in HD.
Tried to negotiate with them but they wouldn't budge so I cancelled it and rang Sky.
I was paying £34 for Virgin's XL package with Sky Sports. Sky matched what I was paying Virgin and offered me the Family Package (everything excluding Movies), Sky Sports and all the HD channels. £10 installation and with £20.00 of my first bill.
You made the right choice by not moving to Virgin IMHO, even if Sky is part of the Murdoch empire! It's just better.
