4k looks much better, as long as viewing distances are not excessive.
How ?

Through resolution ? Or placebo ?

You can clearly see detail that is lacking when you compare 1080 alongside it.

Of course. But at what distance / screen size ?

I've seen it on screens from about 30 inches to around 80. For the larger screens you could spot decent 4k content at about 25 feet.

I have to admit, I find Blu-Ray completely obvious on our old 37" and definitely on the new 50". It's so obvious that my wife will pop out to the kitchen to sort out some wine whilst I put the latest Love Film disc in, and she'll come back in and say "oo good, it's a Blu-Ray" within half a second. The 4K demo we saw in John Lewis on Sunday didn't really seem any different at all to Blu-Ray on a 55" set. I'll keep an eye out for another demo of course, as it would be unfair to judge so quickly, but I can confidently say that the difference isn't as noticeable in isolation as 720 vs 1080.

I got one of these a few weeks ago http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-blu-ray/televi...

Can't fault it. Really notice the difference between 4k and HD even on non 4k content.

And only GBP979 in Aus.
