As title really, I have a flashing red light on My Zeppelin and no sound.

A quick look online seems to indicate it needs to go back to B&W as its in service mode?

If I unplug and restart it plays for about 30 secs then does the same thing.

Is this something I can get repaired locally / DIY or is it B&W only?

Its out of guarantee and it is the old style connector attached to an Ipod classic if that makes any difference?

Any help/pointers will be much appreciated

Luke.

I had this on mine. Had to send it back. Where'd you buy it from?

Mine did similar, out of warranty. I contacted B&W and was treated to first class customer service. They sent me a new box to pack the unit into. Then collected it, informed me of where it was in their system by e-mail and then returned it as new with a new 1 year warranty all for no charge! I hope you get the same 'cos I still recommend B&W based solely on that experience.

I got it off ebay over a year ago, so not the original purchaser.

Will that be a problem?

I had this with mine this morning. Unplugged it and plugged it back in again and it cleared it.

Will be keeping tabs though (Amazon warehouse purchase).

Update.

B&W emailed back this morning with this reply

The repair charge will be £80.00 inc VAT. The repair will come with a 90 day warranty which will start from the day you receive your unit back from our workshop.

Alternatively you can part exchange and upgrade to a Zeppelin Air Promotional Demonstration unit for a fee of £199.00 inc VAT. This product is sonically better performing and has Apple’s Airplay technology which allows wireless music streaming from compatible devices. It features a 30-pin dock, but is compatible with iPhone 5 via AirPlay. (To view this product in more detail and check your Apple devices compatibility on our website, please click on the model name above.) Please Note: This will be a Promotional Demonstration unit and is likely to have minor cosmetic flaws, however it will carry a brand new 2 year manufacturer’s warranty.

My Thoughts are to upgrade or am I being a bit short sighted?

You can't fault service like that.

I'm still fuming that I paid £500 notes for the AirPlay version 6 months ago and they have been reduced to £350 queenheads in the same shop. That's money I could have put towards the P7's I decided I couldn't justify at the time.

Good luck getting it sorted out OP and let us know how it goes.

Mine is the Air model, but I've never been able to get the 'Air' bit to actually work.

I've heard other owners have had the same problem too.

I had no end of bother with mine - from PC to zep. It is most likely down to the firmware version as mine was. Also be aware that last year the instructions were out of date and didn't work. I called B&W's helpline and they talked me through the process and it worked.

Give them a call and give it a try.

Thought I'd just finish this thread off to advise that B&W customer service were excellent, I rang them to upgrade late on Wednesday and the Zeppelin was delivered to my house Friday morning via UPS with a prepaid return label for the old one.

I struggled to set the AIR part up until I resorted to youtube to find that there was an APP which does it all for you!. Took 5 mins in the end and have been playing ITunes happily ever since from my PC and also spotify from my Iphone 6 with no problems. I couldn't perceive any difference playing via Air or directly from my Ipod overall very impressed.

Glad it all worked out for you. I was pretty amazed that there is no difference in sound quality between streaming and docking. Oh yes, the app makes things a lot easier! Took me a couple of minutes of faffing and then straight in.

You cannot beat a British Hi FI company for service. There is a reason they do not scrimp. I have the P7 Headphones and they are a superior listen compared to anything else I have heard. The fact they also look better than most even after a few months use just goes to show that when British company's are not "Accountant" limited they produce the best.

Didn't see this thread the first time round, but had exactly the same issue and went down the upgrade route myself nearly 2 years ago now. I can only echo the comments about B&W customer service as it was superb.

Well done B&W, I only wish more companies had a customer-focused service ethos like yours. thumbup

I have just sent my Zeppelin back for the second time (second £80 repair fee). I think that it is appalling that a simple power cut can affect a device like this so seriously that it needs to go back to the manufacturer for repair.
The power was cut to the device as opposed to being a surge (surge protected) so I don't see why it should go wrong. Very disappointed with B&W.

I have just been reading this thread as I have the same issue but do not agree with the above comments about the customer service.
Mine was repaired a couple of years ago and I may have used it a handful of times since (6-8 hours maybe)
We had a power cut last night and that was it. Flashing light again.
They want another £80 which would basically make it over £20 per hour for use.
I asked if they are confident with the repair why is there only a 3 month warranty? No answer.
Mine will now be going in the bin unfortunately as I don't want to spend another £80 and be in the same situation again.

Google the fault .Mine did the same and its a very simple fix. Just follow the guides on taking it apart .I think it was a single capacitor
