Hi

Panasonic TX-P42X10B - Will it work in the US?

I expect that the answer is no, but I've been searching the web and cannot get a definitive answer.
I've found the manual and that does not say yes or no so I was hoping that someone on here might be able to answer.

If it will not work, we'll take it anyone and use for DVD's/web streaming as we'll need a new TV anyway

Thanks

Not a precise answer but

voltage wise the tv may have a switch to change to US 120v

the americans use NTSC as their broadcast standard in europe we use PAL
unless there is a way of switching you will not be able to use the tuner but the tv will still work with a dvd player games console etc

How will you change their 120v into 240v needed for all your Uk electricals? Easy enough 240v - 120v with a transformer but Havent heard how to do it the other way.

Seems a lot of hassle for a relatively cheap TV, I'm guessing you need to get it there?

Just buy one out there.

Hi

We're planning to buy a couple out there, we just wanted one for DVD's for the pool room.
Had not given enough consideration to the power. That will be the same for lots of our small appliances and we'll need to re-think.
At least the company is paying for shipping!
Many Thanks

I would buy everything there. With DVD's and Blu rays being Region 1....unless you have a multi region player you are buggered. You will also need a cable box...no free to air TV in the US anymore.

Just buy your appliances / electronics out here in the US.

Laptop chargers are multi voltage and so.are many computer based accessories.

Aside from that, most of the UK goods you'll have won't be multi voltage.

We don't bother shipping a lot when we move abroad. Too much hassle and faff for things you rarely end up using.

Tvs etc. Are cheap and plentiful.

The manual said:
  • This TV is designed to operate on 220-240 V, 50 / 60 Hz AC.
  • PAL 525/60 : Playback of NTSC tape from some PAL Video recorders (VCR) or NTSC disc playback from DVD player and recorder.
  • M.NTSC : Playback from M.NTSC Video recorders (VCR).
  • NTSC (AV input only) : Playback from NTSC Video recorders (VCR).

Even if it would work flawlessly (which it won't) they're relatively fragile and the hassle of shipping it so they arrive working is probably less than just selling them in the UK and buying new ones in the US.

Thanks for all of the information.
We're going to leave it here with a friend and buy when we get there.

You could buy a power transformer to convert from 240->120.
when I moved to the U.S. I bought a couple to run some of my UK electrical items out there.

I also purchased a TV out there that ran on either 240 or 120v and supported both PAL and NTSC so I could bring it back to UK when I moved back. A multi Region DVD player is also a good idea.
