To you TV experts.
I'm planning on having a cupboard upstairs, to keep the 2 sky boxes, blue ray, and possibly playstation and sonos.
I want broadcast these to 4 different rooms in the house, and be able to switch between input, change channels etc remotely.

I can have cat 6 run to all of the TV points - do i need anything else (Co-Axial)?
I've been recommended an "HD Everywhere", which seems to be a bit expensive, but will it do the job i am asking of it?

What would you use to switch between devices, and what magic eye should i use?

thanks for your help

Would a wireless system be better than running cables?

Wireless? Not likely...

For each TV run the following;

3x CAT5e or CAT6 for Video, Control, Network.
1x CT100 for TV tuner, not essential if using sky but cable can be used for other purposes if required.

Things to consider

Control. All (most) HDMI over CAT systems have an IR relay system built in so you can control kit installed out of sight, but this requires a collection of remotes in each room. Messy! whilst additional cost a single handset or app based control solution is much easier. Control4, RTI etc. are good options but you'll need to speak to a decent integrator.

You mentioned (possibly) distributing the Playstation, bare in mind the controller has a limited connection distance. Make sure you test from the rooms first or consider installing locally in the room it'll be used in.

HD Anywhere seem OK but we haven't bothered with them as we have other solutions so cant comment specifically, make sure you buy an HDBaseT lite version as this is much more reliable than other HDMi over CAT solutions. They might seem costly to you/me but in comparison to others they're not especially expensive. Look at CYP and WyreStorm as well.

If installing Sonos for Audio with Connect Amps in the cupboard powering speakers in each room, do you want to have video source (audio) come through the speakers? Can be done but needs thought. That or use the Playbar. Control of Sonos is easy as done via Wi-Fi.

Make sure you have at least four CT100 cables from cupboard to Sat dish so you can add extra Sky boxes later if needed. You also want Network connectivity in the Cupboard from your router (if elsewhere) and make sure you have good Wi-Fi in each TV room.

Thanks Ask, lots to consider in there.
I have some more "roomy"questions if you don't min?

I was led to believe that you can push Video and control down one Cat 6 line with the HD anywhere. Have you established that this isn't the case
What alternative would you suggest to HD anywhere?

Tbh i hadn't considered a network link, so will need to think about whether it will get used. Unfortunately, we are in a BT black hole as far as internet accessibility is concerned, so we get the slowest of the slow (and intermittent) internet. We don't even feature in their plans for infinity yet

Good point about Playstaion, i'll check that out.

I'll be installing a sound bar for the main TV room, and just audio to the others. I won't be wanting to send video source audio to them.

Far more to think about that i initially imaged

I'm pretty sure all HDAnywhere products can relay IR and don't get me wrong, they seem to be a perfectly reputable brand we just don't use them. Whatever you purchase though, my firm recommendation is to use a switch that uses HDBaseT, the new modular system from HDAnywhere does;

Other options;

Thanks again for your time Ask, i really appreciate it.
I will investigate those options you list, as i'm not wedded to the HD anywhere

Hey Ask, you get back from skiing ok?

Blues, the HDAnywhere MHub 4Knis both HDBaseT lite and also IR passing. Ask and I spoke about it briefly last weekend. I have used it on a number of jobs and it has worked brilliantly and one specifically was a tough cable run for it to cope with.

There's also another new manufacture on the market called BlueStream, the developers are supposed to have come from Wyrestorm and somewhere else so it seems to have a good pedigree at least.

I would also agree with Ask, CYP and Leaf are worth a look, but more costly than HDAnywhere.

He is also right about your games machines, they can be a pain in the arse to control remotely if not in the same room. So I would suggest you re-think that application.

If local I am happy to help out with anything you need.

V.
