Been tasked by the mother in law to buy her a new recordable Freeview box, as current one (an old Humax SD 9300) keeps locking and freezing requiring a reboot.

Her requirements are twin tuners and HD plus around 500gb or bigger hard drive.

I've spent some time looking at the ones Currys sell and then looking at reviews. It appears that the HUMAX HDR-2000T still has a lot of lock up issues according too the reviews on Amazon. I thought they would have sorted that by now frown

I went through Panasonic the Logik and none of them came out very well in terms of reliability, unless just unhappy people write reviews of course.

So, turning to PH, any recommendations, or any knowledge that Humax are overstated? Ideally one that can be installed and then left to work without having to switch it on and off every few hours!

The FOX-HD T2's I have seem pretty reliable. Had only two lock ups in the two or three years since I got them. Now that Humax direct are not about your best source might be ebay.

Me too, I've been using a Fox HD T2 for years without issues or lock ups. Very simple to use (especially if you sort out a 'favourites' channel list for her) and the series link works very well.

I think sometimes reviews seem to favour the negatives since people who are happy with their gear just go off and use it, so don't feel a need to write about it.

Are the freezes related to disk corruption? My Humax days are behind me now but I remember using an onboard utility to repair the disk on a non-HD PVR a few years ago. Lost the recorded contents, of course, but they were mostly unreadable anyway by then. Does this one have something similar?
