Have an issue with an old (5/6yrs old) LG tv in the "games" room. It's a 50" plasma, from memory a PG3000.

When you go to turn it on, it doesn't turn on, but clicks on and off, with the light going from green to red, constantly for anything between 3 and 10 mins. You cannot stop this process once it has started unless you unplug it. Eventually it stops in the off position. Then you turn it on again straight away and it turns on no problem????

Is it an easy fix? Is it worth fixing money wise? Apart from the fault, the tv is perfect with a great picture and no reason to change it.

My LG TV did the same, that too was a 50" plasma about 6 years old. Turn it on with the remote and it immediately goes back into standby, had to do this quite a few times and it would eventually switch on. It seemed better when the room was warmer. I did look into it and it seems it may have been the Y-sus board that had gone kaput, however I gave the TV to a friend and bought a new one, she still has it and it still takes her 10 minutes to switch it on.

Well the issue got worse, and eventually took 20 mins to turn on. Was about to throw it out and buy a new one, which was a shame as when it does come on, it's a fab picture.

Wife suggested we try and get it fixed. I didn't know anyone bothered to fix tellies these days. Just chuck 'em out and replace.

Anyway, went online on Saturday, found a mobile tv repair service, and 2 hours later Pete was lifting it off the wall and unscrewing the back. He was like an F1 tyre swap team. Off came the back, out came the soldering thingy, a few bits were taken off and new ones welded on, and half an hour later it was back on the wall and the issue was fixed. £90. What a result!

It will be the power board. We had this issue on a Panny Plasma too. It "should" be fixable.

There's an appliance repair shop in Swansea that doesn't look like it has changed in many years (mainly because it hasn't). I often wonder how he stays open but he can't be doing too badly as he's still there smile
