New TV - 42"-50"

Right, I broke my girlfriends Bravia, so "we" are buying a new one together.
It doesn't need to be smart as we have Apple TV and Satellite TV, it just needs to be around the £750 mark. I am going to take a look this afternoon at all the options, but are there any "MX5" type TVs around that people would recommend as standard?
We're open to LCD/LED/Plasma etc, I just want the largest possible screen and best picture quality for minimal outlay.
Oh and it's not being bought in the UK which rules out any Argos/Tesco cheapy deals.
