Focal Domes, Anybody Have Them Or Listened To Them?
Discussion
Morning guys, I am in the process of looking at a home cinema speaker setup and av receiver etc.
Been looking at and reading the reviews of the focal domes and they seem to be highly rated, having won many awards and tests.
Has anybody on here bought a set of these, or heard them in the flesh at all?
I currently have floorstanders and we really want a small setup and swmbo has demanded they look nice this time, hence why the domes seem a good bet.
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers, Matt.

Any satellite speaker system will struggle to compare to a good floorstander.
Maybe look on the Focal site and drop in to a local dealer for a listen.
Although, positioning in the home will dictate how good they will be, the dealer may have a demo set for you to try at home.
Let us know how it goes!

Bump.
Did you get the Domes?
I can't decide between the Dali Zensor 5 deal at Creative Audio or the Focal Domes.
I predict the Focals will provide for an easier life with the OH, plus with an 18month old toddler I can imagine the Dalis getting ruined much the same way I wrecked my own fathers speakers as a kid

I have a Focal Chorus 800 series 5.1 system and I absolutely love it.
I auditioned several speakers including B&W, Dali, etc. and the Focal's we're miles ahead. They just seemed to have much better smoothness, clarity, and top-end sparkle. I understand that this is Focal's "house sound" and I'm a big fan. The B&W's sounded muddy and flat in comparison, whilst the Dali's we're a little underwhelming. The build quality of the Focal's seemed better to me too.
If you're considering a Dali package and can accommodate full-size speakers, I'd recommend looking at the Focal 700, 800, or newer Aria series. If you can stretch to Electra (Be tweeter) you'd have a killer system, albeit pricey!

However, full size speakers are not an option I'm afraid.
The main reason for the hunt for a new system is exactly the size. as SWMBO finds the current B&W speakers too large...
I will try and have a listen at the Focal Dome Flax system though!
I have got a bunch of Focal Sib XL and Sib speakers which were my first surround set. I think the Domes replaced these speakers and were based on similar drivers.
They are very good for what they are BUT of course they are limited by their firm factor. I got a very large upgrade in audio quality by moving to XTZ Cinema series which I would imagine would be much closer to your floor standers.
Therefore I would suggest you would notice a reduction in quality in going down to the Domes, but if you really need to do this for the WAF then they’ll probably be on a par with any satellite system of similar size.

Not Focal domes but I use Cambridge Audio Minx 11s in my lounge (with a Yamaha 1067) which sound OK in isolation but when I listen to my Tannoy MX3 floorstanders with my Yamaha 2067 in my home cinebar there is night and day difference as you would expect.
But the CA are pretty good really and certainly less intrusive!
