Need to buy a new record player

My other half has a large collection of vynal LP's and CD's, we dont have a record player as such only a ipod docking station. I was thinking about buying a cd \ record \ amp \ speaker set up but have no idea what to buy. I dont want low end curry's etc type but something that looks good and has a resonable reproduction, my budget would be around £600-800, can anybody recommend anything?

For your budget I'd have a look at Richer Sounds, they stock Cambridge gear and will negotiate a bit on price.

Have a look at Rega or Pro-Ject; best bang for buck. See if there is an onboard phono stage or get an amp with one.

A Rega is a great starter deck, but whatever you end up with I would strongly recommend looking in the for sale sections on hi fi forums. You have an OK budget & should be able to achieve a very competent system for that, but a bit of wise buying of used gear will elevate that by a couple of levels at least.
