As title really, the HK wasn't my first choice, but got the whole lot free with the purchase of my TV.
Over the last couple of years it's done a good job, but it has frustrating features.

Ideally, what I'd like, is to set the default sound output as Dolby PLII, but after endlessly going through the system menus I can't find a way to do this. It seems like I have to power it up, then scroll through the surround options every time and set it as Dolby. It's then turned off, and next time it starts up It will always select 'original' as the default which doesn't utilise the 5:1 surround.

It's annoying, and surely there must be a way around. Anyone know?

(I can live with manually selecting every time, but it's on my mind now and I want to ask the question!)

What source are you using and how is it connected?

I had an AV amp that would do something similar, the reason was I had an old Sky box connected by optical, the AVR would default to the source format which was 2.0 Dolby Digital for most channels aprt from the movie channels which were 5.1 Dilby Digital, when I cancelled the movie channels I found changing the sound format to PCM rather than bitstream sorted the issue, it would have meant not having proper DD for the movies which wasn't an issue. I also found using an analogue audio connection for the audio also solved the issue, but again would lose proper DD surround if any channels did offer it.
