Need help deciding on which goggle box to get for the parents. Like myself, they have had a history of Panasonic Plasmas; PW6,8 PH10, and Viera's but now they want something bigger.

Budget is circa £800 and I've found two from 2014 that seem to tick the box. Worth noting that 4K isn't necessary as they won't have any content, and there certainly isn't a need for gaming spec.

I'm thinking:

Samsung UE55H6400
Panasonic tx-50ax802b

Other than flipping a coin I'm not sure I can choose between them.

Thoughts?

Cheers

I have both Samsuing and Panasonic (not those exact models). My biggest gripe with the Samsung is screen glare - it suffers far more from reflections than the Panasonic.

Panny has superior picture too IMHO.

Thanks guys.

Noticed a typo on my original post, that Panny should have read TX55 rather than 50!

Not sure I'd buy one from anywhere other than Richer Sounds or John Lewis but that said stock is getting scarce now.

I bought a UE55ES8000 and it's had 4 screens due to them failing (vertical lines on the screen).

Disappointing given the cost of it at the time (just under 3K!), and more disappointing is that a new screen is 1K.

It will be getting binned and replaced with a much cheaper unit.

I doubt I'll buy Samsung again...

no idea on models or stock, but Costco is always an interesting place for TV's - their prices tend to be very keen, and they offer a free 5 year warranty (or certainly did last time we got one!)

As previous posters have said Panny all the time.

Think of it as Panasonic being the Aston Martin of the TV world and samsung a Ford Focus

There was once a time I would have disagreed, however I completely agree now after the trouble I've had with my Samsung. High end junk IMO.

Perhaps I will try Panasonic next time...
