Hi all,

I've just been informed that my Father In Law would like a TV recording type box for his upcoming Birthday...I've also been informed that I need to get it this weekend!

I've never looked into this before as always had Sky or Virgin, so can someone please recommend a decent one and maybe tell me what one would do versus another or are they all pretty similar?

Budget no more than £120

Thanks.

I am on my second Humax box, both bought refurbished. The first is still working and I have had my second for at least five years.

Humax - end of thread - we have had 2 (upgraded the disk size), I recommended (and they bought) for my mother, father and mother in law. Simple to use and very effective - they just work! All bought from the Humaxdirect (reconditioned) website.

Agree on Humax.

We bought one for our 60yo mum, and she loves it. Its been running perfectly for about 4 or 5 years and I think we paid less than £100 for a refurb one.

Thanks all,

Sounds like Humax is the way to go!
Just need to decide on size, I'm thinking 500gb is probably plenty.

Just make sure you get the right system. Humax make boxes for both FreeView and FreeSat.

And some with good home media capabilities and some without. I wish they'd do one big box that covered all ground - YouView+, home media streaming etc etc.

Oh bugger, think I may have bought the one with Freesat and not Freeview.
Is there a major difference as it's already wrapped for his Birthday?

If you've bought a freesat version and he doesn't have to satellite dish feed then it simply won't work.

Old skool aerial = freeview
Sky dish = freesat

Thanks, turns out I'd bought the Freesat by mistake.
Anyway, got hold of the Freeview one yesterday and will be returning the other to Humax today.

Thanks for all the help and advice!
