Looking at getting a new TV in the next couple of weeks, but just don't know what to get, only requirements are:

Must be able to stream netflix in 4k
55inch or above
Under £1500, but closer to £1000 would b ideal
Be able to upscale Tivo to near good quality 4k.
Future proof, hdmi 2.0?

This will just be used for watching tivo, netflix or 1080p films from laptop connected by hdmi, wont be used for gaming, dont really care about 3d, but if its there i dont mind, and dont mind how many apps and all that other jazz.

Number one priority is the picture, I got a 5.1 system already. Just want a noticeable difference in picture from my 4 year old toshiba led!

Thanks.

Bought this a couple of months, better than expected but there is a curious delay between Blu Ray player & the surround system (also Sony) that isn't there with the SKY box - I'll get round to sorting it hopefully;

You can't buy a future-proof 4k telly just now, as the standards have just been set by the Ultra HD Alliance and no manufacturer has built one yet.

So that means no HDR and no 10 bit panel in any 4k telly on sale now, so all you're buying is a higher res.

And with HDCP 2.2, the entire chain must be 2.2 compliant, so is your 5.1 system HDCP 2.2 ready?

http://www.techhive.com/article/2881620/4k-content...

In order to watch copy-protected Ultra HD content--be it on a disc, a download, or via an over-the-top stream—you’ll need HDCP 2.2 compatible devices at every link in the signal chain.

Having a non-HDCP 2.2 sound bar or AV receiver in your home theater system will be enough to terminate the handshake and your afternoon plans for watching The Godfather in glorious 4K resolution.

Just FYI there is a device that you can buy that will strip HDCP 2.2 from the chain and allow non HDCP 2.2 devices to be fed 4K signals. Whether or not they can gain the full benefit from the UHD signal is another matter; I have a JVC projector that can accept 4K in and 10 bit (at 24p which most 'films' are) but it won't be able to the HDR bit (and it isn't native 4K dispay either for that matter). We might get some benefit from UHD sources in the future even with non 4K displays at least in terms of reduced banding and just a generally improved picture quality more along the lines of the old 'superbit' DVDs.

I haven't ordered one yet, but might get one soon to take advantage of the pre order discount:

If nothing else it might be useful as a splitter.

The display device and audio device should negotiate a delay via HDMI CEC. It usually works, but if not (or you are not using HDMI cables between your display device and surround sound amp so they can't talk) you should be able to impose a delay on the surround system for that input manually. Doesn't explain why the SKY box works, are they connected differently?

Hi Varsas thanks for the reply, it's only a minimal delay but it's noticeable.

Yes the SKY goes direct to TV via HDMI.

The Blu Ray also goes to the TV via HDMI.

So far so good...

The TV goes to the Sound bar; http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/sound-bars/ht-nt... by the way (very good with the optional sub) Also via an HDMI (HDCP 2.2)

So although it works perfectly for the SKY box sound via the Blu Ray is always a fraction behind the video.

PS. I've tried using the delay on both the sound bar & the BR player to no avail.

Oh, what a pain. Hmm, it's usually the other way around, with the picture processing on the TV causing the picture to lag, and you seem to know what you are talking about too. Not sure what would be causing the sound to lag. Hope you get it sorted though! Can you try a different player (DVD if you don't have another BluRay deck), just something HDMI? Or maybe try cabling the player to the amp with optical, and the picture straight to the TV with HDMI?

Oh, just thought of one last thing, I had a problem where the ARC channel was making the sound go from the player to the amp, then to the TV, then back down to the amp, and that was the audio I was hearing. You were then getting a double delay; the delay the TV imposes on it's outgoing sound AND the delay the two devices had negotiated. I had to disable ARC on my display (actually a projector) AND the amp to get it to stop. Probably not what's happening to you, I'm grasping at straws a bit to be honest, but I'm all out of idea's otherwise!

That's really kind of you to go into such detail, much appreciated.

You might be onto something with the BD player as its Panasonic - time to dig out the PS3 and see if it syncs better with the rest of the Sony kit !
