So my 15 year old Hitachi Plasma went kaput this morning - made a bang and now wont't turn on. This TV was in our bedroom and downstairs I have a 5 year old HD panny plasma. Things have obviously moved on leaps and bounds so now is a good chance to move the panny upstairs and get some serious new kit for the lounge!

Budget £5k
Wants - 4k, internet streaming on TV, good pic and sound, bigger the better! NO CURVED!

There seem to be some nice ones from Sony and Panny but also some very cheap LG and Samsung sets which seem to be similar spec but much cheaper.

What would you get in my shoes today?? Back on the day I remember the Pinoeer sets being the must have Plasma - whats todays must have TV?

Thanks

Make sure it is certified by Netflix.

Amazon Prime and Netflix only work on particular TVs.

As time goes on, you'll want to use this more - especially if you want to actually watch something in 4K.

Do they really support 4K?

Possibly.

But, if you're dropping five grand on a TV that you're keeping for years, it pays to keep flexible.

Chromecast doesn't.

New Roku (4) does.

Good point!

My Samsung has upgradable software, and the next step is a hardware upgrade in a slot in the separate 'box' where the processing is done, and the next step after that is upgrading the external breakout box itself.

Having Netflix in the TV is just really convenient for us.

I was dead set against curved. Gimmick I thought.

I was still apprehensive in the shop.

Now it's at home, I can't image having flat. Usable viewing angle is increased, and the view from in front is awesome, especially at closer distances where the curve makes more difference. We've got the 8 series Samsung 65 inch.

Thanks - is it wall mounted? I don't have space to have it on a stand has to be wall mounted and not sure how a curve would look hence why I want a flat...

Can you buy a flat, 4K, OLED, 65" tv, or are they still all curved?

Agreed. They are simply spectacular. I defy even the most ardent TV hater to walk past one running 4k footage and not stop and go wow. Even my wife who is very meh about TVs stopped and asked when can we get one of those. They are head and shoulders above the others in terms of picture quality.

OK will go have a look - guessing Richer sounds should have these.

I would like to see how Sky Sports and other non 4k streams look on these before I jump in though...
