Loads of old b&o kit - check out the speakers

www.beoworld.co.uk/beolabpenta.htm

old maybe, but anything that scans the room when switched on to figure out how to get the best sound wins for me

Funny thing with music. Sometimes it sounds better when played on crap kit than good stuff. For eg., I think Invisible Sun sounded better played through my awful little Medium Wave tranny in 1981 than it sounds on the ARCAM set up I have now.

Mixing music is a funny old game... you get it sounding perfect in the control room or mastering room... then you listen to it on the sort of kit most average listeners have and realise that it all needs tweaking to hell and back. Then it sounds crap on the good stuff.

There's no right answer as far as I can tell...

Am going to audition the Acoustic Energy Aelite 2s tonight, with my Audion Sterling single ended valve amp (12W/ch). Front end will consist of my (original)Pink Triangle/Alphason Delta/Linn K9 combo and a good phono pre-amp (the Graham Slee line looks good to me, thanks to whoever made the suggestion here!).

I'll keep my CDs for in the cars, at least for the time being.

I have a NAD home cinema system with ceiling screen and projector.

It's pretty good, but there are guys here who are real audiophiles....

Interestingly my front speakers for hifi - tv surround are Eltak with Cambridge Audio amp, about 2 years old now, the rears are Mission Speakers with a NAD Amp and they're about 20 years of age ! Honestly the older ones sound better !! + It's louder too !

I only listen to musak when commuting.

Neither do I possess facial hair or sweaters enough to justify the insertion of spikes into my testicles.

And I don't like Tracy Chapman.

Come to think of it, I don't even have a fast car either, right now.

I have Budget student system. Budget sony cd, old nice Goodman speakers, non discript receiver/amp which i hate and a leak throughline 3 mono receiver, which is nice but need to get renovated. DOes anyone know anywhere were I can get it serviced?

You need my mate Jez at Arkless Electronics, can get you a number if you're serious? Jez used to design amps for Musical Fidelity, he knows his stuff. Yes, including valves

My old man is right into his Linn;

In the house we have

Linn Keilidh speakers,
Linn LK100 Amps,
new Ikemi CD player (the last one, a Karik, broke down; unrepairable!)
also a Linn poweramp I forget the name of (Kairn?).
Sondek valhalla on the way also for playing those old big black round things.

Sounds :9:

I'm both a complete 'vinyl-head' and a 'flat-earther', so current music system is:

Linn Sondek LP12 Deck
Linn Ekos Tonearm + silver 'T' cable
Linn Akiva MC cartridge
Linn Lingo 2 power supply
Linn Linto phone stage
Naim NAC 52 pre-amp + Supercap power supply
SNAXO 3-6 active crossover + Supercap power supply
6 x Naim NAP 135 mono block power amps (the "six-pack")
Linn Isobarik PMS speakers
Meridian 500 CD Transport + 563 DAC
Nakamichi CR-3 Cassette Deck
And some cheap tuner thingie that hasn't been unpacked for the last three years ...

Sundry other bits of kit lying around include Naim NAC 72 pre + Hicap p/s, Onix OA 21 amp + SOAP p/s, Manticore Mantra TT with Linn Basix arm and Fidelity Research cartridge, Crimson Elektrik 1200/1500 pre-power amp, JBE Diamond 3 speakers, Input Design kitdeck, a TEAC CD transport, Kef Reference Q speakers ...

Time for a clear out, I suspect.
