Most of the ultra slim sets these days don't have the chassis depth to mount a scart socket, so most have a multipin socket and an adaptor with a scart socket on a short lead at one end and the multipin plug on the other end..

The cable arrived today. Sadly, the tv says 'no signal'. I've checked and double-checked everything so presumably the output from the old vcr/dvd combo isn't compatible.

If you don't have scart, I'd be using composite rather than component for guaranteed success.

You can do composite and sound with 3 connections....

That's the last chance saloon. Worth a try. I'll report back once I get the cable.
Anyone want some scart leads going cheap? smile

You could hack your component lead into a composite lead.... or at least try the audio inputs.

The lead is only pennies so I'll give that a try. If not, I'll have to keep at least one scart-equipped telly. I still have one in a spare room. A pain though.

Check the settings on the VCR, it may have setting to allow you to output in RGB or composite.

The composite lead works perfectly. Pretty good picture too. Thanks for all the advice.
