Freeview vs Freesat

Ahoy Comrades.

I currently have an old non-HD Sky+ box that is on its last legs, which is probably a sign from The Gods that I stop paying a fortune each month to Rupert just for the odd football match, some F1 races that I only watch out of tradition and re-runs of Finding Bigfoot.

Is there any good reason to choose Freeview over Freesat?

(I live in a block with a communal dish and aerial so both are available and not upgradeable)

Depends on the telly you have and what you want it to do. Ours has built in freeview so no extra boxes required but freesat (I believe) gives you some HD stuff on top of the dozens of freeview channels at the cost of buying a box and fiddling with the dish.

We don't care about watching the news or pointless in HD and don't want to pay millions to sky/virgin/etc etc so have freeview, Now TV which gives you the main Sky channels and Netflix which streams films/TV series and stuff in HD. Total cost is around £12 a month plus the TV license.

No MotorsTV on Freesat. You need Freeview +HD (to record the IMSA races).

Got both - As already said, no Dave on freesat, and there's more HD content on freesat IIRC. I tend to view freeview most of the time as the EPG is better.

The TV (last generation Panasonic Plasma) has freeview and freesat tuners built in and I had hoped to be able to HDD record from one while viewing the other, but sadly not. Anybody techy who knows why this is? As far as I can see, as there are two tuners it should be possible. Maybe they've crippled it so you had to buy the next model up.
