Anyone know how to programme the Sky Q remote to switch on/off the TV? We have a Samsung circa 2 years old and the Sky engineer said he had programmed it so we wouldn't need the TV remote but it doesn't seem to work!
Hold down the power button for a couple of seconds.
This - assuming that is that the volume buttons work?

If they do, then power should work too. If they don't then you need to reprogram the remote.

@rscott, @_dobbo_ You chaps are the nuts. It worked a charm! Thank you.

Im loving Sky Q, took a little time to get used to it but really enjoying it, the hard drive storage is great too.

I cancelled my Sky package earlier this month (box sets package which I had for half price for 10 months) as I just don't watch it anymore.
However, I came across a deal that was tweeted by Paul O'Brian (runs the MoDaCo site) giving a link that would get you free Sky Q for 18 months with the original package via Hughes. Phoned them up on Monday and within 5 minutes had it all sorted, installation taking place on Monday! Got my Q card delivered Wednesday, emails from Sky to confirm installation and absolutely zero cost for 18 months.

I also saw it on hotukdeals but it appears to have been taken down now, probably due to the response they got so not sure if it is still available.

Forgot to add that Hughes were offering the full package and the 1tb box for £35 a month for 18 months and the 2tb box (again with full package) for £47 a month.
I also think the variety package was £10 a month and box sets was £16 a month.

Yeh that's the friends and family deal out at the minute.

My 'friend' has emailed me an offer - 2TB Sky Q box for £60 and £12 extra a month on top of what I am already paying (£82.99 per month currently for Sky+HD, Sky Fibre and line rental).

That a good deal?

I would suggest calling Hughes and seeing what they can offer

I'm intrigued, how does this Hughes business secure discounted deals? Do they have some kind of referral arrangement with Sky?

I've been in touch and waiting for a price from them as I'm out of contract, although Sky has extended my current 50% discount to September 2018.

I'd be interested to know how this works too.
I've been out of contract for ages. Last time I 'negotiated' with sky I got my ancient package names updated but ended up spending pretty much the same. hehe
Really just want sports and BT sport. Mrs has defected to Netflix and amazon anyway.

I wonder if Sky want rid of the old +/HD boxes and for everyone to have a Q box?

I know Currys and a few other places are offering half price but would never have expected a free sub.

Still, all installed now, new dish as well.

At a guess, he's on a communal system - it's a way of getting the 2 feeds required using only a single cable.

How does it work? Looks like one in and one out.

It's a dSCR switch.
As the Sky q system uses a wideband LNB, that plug in allows a normal sky dish/ communal feed to supply the q box. The q box has a setting in the engineers menu to allow SCR signals.

Your communal system may have been upgraded to accept Q boxes. Some will be, others wont it depends lots of factors between sky and landlords.

Your right it has.

Reference turning your TV on with your Q remote, you press once to turn Q on,and press/hold o turn your TV on ,
Bottom left button flicks between your AV channels

You might already be aware of this, but worth mentioning I thought

Mine turns the telly and sound bar on just by turning on the Q box. To switch off it's a brief off for the Q box then a longer off for the telly.

As an aside, and in reply to my previous post on here, I now have ultra HD back. It seems that the last update cured whatever the problem was so I can now watch and download ultra HD content (the latest Star Trek film looks superb) so it's all good this end now.

Quick question. Can you use the Sky Q touch remote to operate the Sky Q mini boxes? I want to hide the box away but I guess the std remove needs line of sight to work whereas the touch remote uses bluetooth?

TIA Shep.
