GLorious! Thanks.

I keep seeing sky q stuff for sale on ebay. What's the thinking here, people cant be allowed to sell these I'd have thought?

It's just I can pick up a spare mini on ebay for half the price sky are charging, but am wondering if as it doesn't belong to the seller whether it might get disabled at a later date.

No point in buying a box if you can blag a good deal.

Plus, they all belong to sky so I guess they are stolen and even if you did, I doubt it would pair to the card.

Sky have warned that exactly that is likely to happen, plus you may have issues if you've got more minis than your account says..

I'd give them a call and ask nicely - some have reported discounts on extra minis.

Question - does anyone know if you can mix wireless and wifi for the skyq boxes?

I have wifi which now works faultlessly for the existing boxes, but I want to put an adidtional mini box in my gym which doesn't get wifi signal.

So can I have one box wired and the others wifi or do I have to switch to wired for all of it?
Absolutely.

Also Sky Q boxes always belong to Sky and are not the customers to sell. Sky will refuse to add any equipment not supplied by them onto your account.

Got it all installed today. Seems pretty good.
One issue I'm having though, when I press the HOME button to show guide and planner etc, for some reason that seems to control the input on the amp too. So I get the Sony screen saying "sky/cable" with the little logo. Obviously I don't want this and I've been through the menus but cannot figure out a fix. Please help!

E: fixed it, it's in the video/sound setup NOT remote!

Hi Ash,
I have a similar issue with a Sony amp.
Did you fix in the Sky settings or amp settings? Would you share more detail please?
Cheers, Steve.

Go into the menu where you set your sound to dolby/normal and picture resolution etc. In there, at the bottom is one called "allow hdmi switching" or something like that. Just set to off/no.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense and I'll take a pic this evening for you.

Thanks Ash.

That reads like a Sky setting, I'll have a try later.

Thanks again, Steve.

Q Minis are £50 from sky at the moment rather than £99

Anybody know how you change the settings to run your Q box on an ethernet cable rather than wifi? Just curious to see if it is any quicker, I can't find the menu option to do this, its not in 'advanced settings' where I would expect it to be. Do you have to turn wifi off first maybe for that option to appear?

It's under the network settings, fairly straightforward.

I found it makes a noticeable difference despite my sky box being no more than 10 feet from the router. Despite Sky's apparent reluctance to use a wired connection I haven't had any problems either.

Just plug the cable in - there was a change in the last software update which means it uses Ethernet if available.

Thanks, I did find the menu option but I had to unpair the box from my wireless network for it to show the wired connection option & it didn't work at first time of asking, I will have another go tomorrow.

Daft question, but is there any way to move to say 45 minutes of a 60 minute recording without having to FFWD from the beginning?

You used to be able to select the start position on the old Sky+ boxes, but on the Q you get the choice to "resume" if you've already started watching the programme but no way (that I can see) of manually moving it on if you haven't (or if you've dozed off watching it and it finishedlaugh).

Push up then hold right till you get to desired time is quickest way I have found.

Its a shame the options gone from the old boxes as I liked it.

Has the bookmark function gone? On the previous box during a recorded program you pressed the red button and it bookmarked not anymore?
