Also, streaming TV through a satellite dish that's attached to your house just seems so old fashioned to me. Almost all the Sky content is available on demand, from up to four devices (so, more than Netflix).

When Netflix actually start getting the content I want to watch, I might consider switching.

I have both Sky and Netflix.

You don't need to 'download' a film on Sky before you watch it... as soon as it's buffered you can start watching. And it takes about the same time for a Sky film to buffer as it does a Netflix... for me, it's pretty much instantaneous.

The difference is Sky's way of doing it comes from a time when peoples internet wasn't good enough to stream HD, so it would download the film first and tell you when it thought you could start watching. Where as with Netflix and similar if your internet isn't good enough you won't be able to experience HD at all.

Streaming and Downloading content is exactly the same, just one saves the data you downloaded, the other throws it away.

You've messed up the quoting as it wasn't me that said old fashioned - but agree with your comment about it being almost instantaneous.

Can you quite literally have almost anything that is on Sky TV? Could I download/stream the episode of Jeremy Kyle that aired two weeks ago and I didn't record?

You can view any content that is on any of the on-demand services - so if Jeremy Kyle is on ITV player, you can get it. Of course you don't need sky for this but the box does make it easy!

Sky also offer a very similar service to Netflix with their own content - so almost every series broadcast on a Sky channel is available as a boxset - for example, all Game of Thrones episodes. Or if you're like my wife, 12 (yes 12) seasons of "Greys Anatomy".

Had my installed over the weekend and it was pretty straight forward for the engineer thankfully...

It maybe my eyes, but the picture quality appears to be improved, as it is now running 1080p, notice this on the 4K television. Nice to get proper Dolby Digital on movies certainly sounds better too through the amp. Trying to get used to the new menu layout and the main remote, but within a few days seems to be fine.

I do like the size and design of the mini boxes, they are small enough to put onto a little shelf and no hassle of wires coming into the room. I also like how it turns televisions into smart TV's, with Airplay/Bluetooth music, apps etc.

So far so good. I was woken up around 5am yesterday with the television just switching itself on, I assume it was doing some sort of update, the engineer did warn me, so have turned the HDMI control to off. Find movie downloads very quick and the interface very responsive.

Roll on UHD in the summer...

The signal is still 1080i - having the Sky Q box set to 1080p just means the box is doing the upsacaling rather than your TV. So you could see an improvement in PQ.

For me, the JS9000 in the living room looks marginally better with the Silver set to 1080i, but the J5600 in the bedroom looks significantly better with the mini set to 1080p.

Something with your setup must have changed as at the moment it outputs the exact same as a Sky+ HD box did.

Ours has been a bit picky and we've lost 112 at the moment, all scrambled.

Update has been put out too, can wait or tell the box to look for it, not sure what it changes yet but it's assumed that it is in preparation for non-Sky BB users who's installs start tomorrow.

I had the phantom powering on issue and was advised to change the power mode on the mini box to 'active' instead of 'Eco' and this fixed it.

Just moved and having not had Sky for two weeks I can vouch that Netflix is NOT a replacement!

Question for Sky Qists - does the Sky Go app keep working in parallel? If not, do Tablets need to be 'paired' with a Sky Q box before you can take them off somewhere? Otherwise, distant relatives who (ahem) share my Sky Sports might be disappointed once my Q gets installed. Thanks.

If you want to use Sky Q on your tablet in conjunction with your set up then you install the Sky Q App - I was disappointed I could not install this on my phone but ho hum.

To answer your question though, yes Sky Go does continue and I also got Sky Go Extra (the ability to download) as part of my Q package.

I am very disappointed that the Sky Q app is not available on my Android phone, but it is coming, apparently.

The existing Sky+ app still works for remote record.

The Sky Q advert on TV says that the Sky Q app works on any tablet in my house. I showed the engineer my Windows Surface tablet, he said no, doesn't work on that.

So - not any tablet in my house then. Good advertising Sky!

Mine has been installed for a week now a overall I am quite impressed. The kids seem to be able to manage the swipe remote but I guess they are used to it with the Apple TV anyway.

Two little things bother me though.

One. My previous Sky+/HD remote was able to switch the tv on by pressing the TV button, then the On button on the Sky remote. I do not see a TV button on the new remotes, so how can I switch my TV on with the new Sky remote? The TV volume works with the new Sky remote.

Two. I find watching Sky Q on my IPad is a bit hit and miss, with the connection to the Sky Q box dropping now and again. It isn't WiFi dropping as I still have access to Sky Q and catch up TV, I just lose access to my recordings and my Sky Q box. I try reloading the Sky Q app, reconnecting the wifi but last night it was particularly stubborn in not reconnecting. The recorded episode of Marcella I was watching on my IPad stopped, and I had to continue by using the Itv hub through the Sky Q app instead. Any one else had this and how do we overcome it?

Oh, and three. Watching on the iPad is great hen it works, but forwarding through adverts is very clunky. I am using the progress bat thing at the top, and basically pulling it along with my finger. Is there not a x2, x4 x8 etc button?

So apart from those niggles, it is good.
