any thoughts about the SkyQ t&cs that are very clear that all the boxes are loaned to the customer (not owned by customer) and must be returned at later date?
Doesn't bother me at all, my old boxes gather dust in the loft as they have little value. I'd be surprised if sky sent someone rounded to collect the Q boxes if you cancel outside of the contract period. I like that repairs are included with these.DoctorX said:

I ordered Sky Q on Friday and just looking into how to set it up. My old box has died and although I was aware of Sky Q I hadn't done much research into it but have kind of been forced into it now.
I have all my equipment in a central rack with hdmi running through conduit to two locations. I don't have Sky Broadband.
I notice it mentions about Powerline adapters for connecting the Q Mini to the main box, can I just plug an ethernet cable between them? I'm assuming it doesn't connect via a LAN switch/hub.
Also as I'll be using IR to control them where are the IR receivers on each box.
Thanks
Fred

Powerline is not enabled yet, they create a mesh network via wifi that also connects to your own network, so you can connect them both via ethernet to a switch, or your router etc if you wish.
If you're already setup to use them in a centralised location then you aren't getting the real benefits of Sky Q, as you could just use the one box really. The IR sensors are on the front, black circular discs.

Ok so all set up and running. Two glitches so far.
1: The tiles for the Catch Up and Box sets menus have no artwork. (Engineer said they would download but 36 hours later and still not there).
2: Switched on this evening and the EPG guide would not load. Reset box and router and it loads but took about a quarter of an hour.
Also not keen on the Bluetooth remote.

Thanks, I won't be using wifi. Too many steel beams in this building. If you're already setup to use them in a centralised location then you aren't getting the real benefits of Sky Q, as you could just use the one box really. The IR sensors are on the front, black circular discs.
I currently only have one box so Sky Q will give me a big advantage and having it all tucked away still keeps swmbo happy

Fred

Be prepared for an installer who doesn't want to use Ethernet, it seems a bit of a mixed bag if they are willing to use it. If they don't it's probably easier to just play along with their wishes to use Wifi and then change it when they leave.I currently only have one box so Sky Q will give me a big advantage and having it all tucked away still keeps swmbo happy

Use the installer menu (Home, 0, 0, 1, Enter) to change network options, you can turn off the wifi bands and enable Ethernet. I've got one Mini running via Ethernet mainly because it's there, and it runs a little cooler with the wifi disabled.
Placed my order - Skyq silver and 2 remote boxes today.
Was in town so stopped to talk to one of their staff on their stand in the shopping arcade. My monthly price will drop by £10. He had an issue when placing the order as it didn't come back with the the final screen he was expecting. So called the office to try and verify if the order was placed. 2 different numbers kept telling him to ring the other number. In the end he just said to keep an eye on my Credit Card to see if the payment (£248) comes out.
When I got home there was an email from Sky asking me to ring them as there was a problem with the order. So called them and apparently there had been a time out problem so the order was never completed properly. So went over everything again and the guy said I had Sky a long time (16+ years) according to his screen. That meant that I didn't have to pay for the extra box.
So should have it installed next Wednesday for £148
Now what can I do with the old Series 1 Tivo. You served me well over all those years

Called Sky regarding missing artwork from the menu tiles. A very helpful lady explained it was caused by my BT router. I disabled the 'Smart setup' function on the router and now al is well.1: The tiles for the Catch Up and Box sets menus have no artwork. Odd problems with my Q mini...
Woke up this morning and flicked the TV on catch the news (bedroom TV, mini box), but couldn't change channels. The channel change box popped up (bottom left) with the new channel number, but the picture wouldn't change.
No problems accessing on demand and recorded content.
Rebooted the mini. Didn't fix it... after doing this I lost access to all TV channels, but still had on demand and recorded content.
Rebooted the sliver box. Didn't fix it.
Rebooted the router. Didn't fix it.
Main TV on silver box works fine.

You may need to update the software on the mini. Mine did this two nights ago. Box downstairs must have updated as the mini was on all night so I updated it then rebooted the whole system. It's still new so I guess there will always be bugs.
