Is that because openreach have to come out to install it or are sky just ripping people off again??

If you're still in contract with your broadband at the moment it might be worth waiting for fibre max so you're in a better bargaining position

If you already have sky fibre then there should be no charge as it's just a profile change. If you don't have any luck let me know.

Anyone know how to get an additional SkyQ mini for £50? I'm hearing rumours its possible but I can't figure out how. I can install the thing myself I think?

I've just agreed to join Sky. New 1tb Q box with full package and HD £30 a month and £15 setup.

We have SKY+HD at the moment, but have just bought a 4k HDR OLED TV. Is it worth upgrading to the new Skyq box for an extra £12 per month?

I would say 'it depends'. The only UHD content at the moment is live football, the F1 from 2017 and currently 35 movies, but some of them are remastered in UHD rather than being true UHD films. If you have Sky Sports then I'd say it would be worth it. Especially from next year.

UHD content aside the 2160p output of the Sky Q main box gives a much-improved PQ on all other channels. That, along with the ability to watch Sky around the house without additional wiring and the removal of recording clashes is definitely worth the upgrade, imo.

Have a look in the "Box sets! section as there's loads more UHD content including some amazing wildlife stuff which really shows off 4K..

I may go for it, once I've licked the financial wounds of buying the OLED TV..

I do not subscribe to the sports channels, and have no interest in football, rugby, cricket etc. I use SKY mainly for SKY Atlantic (GoT & Westworld) and the channel that has The Walking Dead (FX?). I have the movie package, but I find I already have the films on BR when they're released, so may get rid of that package. I know they have a new film every day now, but on the whole, they're usually total crud.

Overall the Sky Q interface actually feels like you're living in about 2014, rather than 2004 like the old UI.

If you have multiroom, it's basically a no brainer as the extra fee is similar to the multiroom that you no longer pay.

Thanks to some very helpful people on here I have just gone for Sky in mine and my Mrs' new house.

We went for everything.
SkyQ (1Tb) with Cinema, Sports and Box Sets
Sky Fibre Max (80mbs yay).

Total cost -

£69.40 per month

Upfront -
Sky Q 1TB box Install Fee
£15.00
Fibre Broadband Activation Fee
£39.00

Pretty happy with that.

Only question is my mrs has sky at her parents house (where she lives).
They have Multiroom.
Can we take the old Sky Box (which has loads of stuff downloaded for us to watch) and add that in a second room?
if so is that extra charges?
Or is SkyQ only going to work with other SkyQ boxes and not the older one.

You cannot use the old box when Q is installed, it uses a different LNB.

Most stuff expires if downloaded when it's no longer available, best to see how much you could still download, take a couple photos of the planner and get downloading when Q is installed. If there's anything you can't download again, just watch it at the inlaws.

OR - If your house currently has a dish installed and a cable coming in through the wall you could just take the box from theirs and watch it at home. Old Sky boxes have no idea where they are, so as long as the card is being paid for it will work anywhere.

That's annoying.

Ok thanks smile

Don't think the current house has a dish. We don't move in until next Wednesday so can't be 100% sure.

Just lots of superbike racing and classic F1 races that i've recorded , all go to waste lol

I'd go for the 2TB box - that's the only one which supports UHD, plus it has more tuners available.

Wish they would sort the info button out so you can press it again to make the text disappear.

One thing I've been finding annoying with sky Q is the size of black bar at the bottom when you pause.

If you are pausing to read some on-screen text the black bar often covers it up so it can't be read at all!
