Would Sky Q fix the fact that I'm having to turn my current router off and on at least twice a day to get re-connected ?
We got a new router along with the skyQ box, so maybe.

However my new router is in my opinion, garbage, as the wireless is so flaky in my house now that I had to setup another wifi router to use.

Now that may be the cause of my various sky q problems, because before my wireless was at least stable if not very fast. Now it's either fast, or not working at all.
If your wireless isn't that great then it'll definitely be causing your Q problems - that's how Q connects by default.. Have you reported it to Sky and had an engineer out to investigate?

Sky Q's wireless can be great, but they're using the boxes as hotspots to increase the range. If the Q boxes are already at the edge of the main hubs range then the entire network will become spotty.

Ideally you want the Hub central, then the boxes as far apart as possible whilst still having good signal, which will then broadcast their own signal even further. Or spreading them to make as bigger area as possible, as the boxes can link together rather than all going to the Hub.

When sky installed our Q box recently they needed up putting a wireless repeater in one of the bedrooms (looks like a white cisco job).

I'm assuming you cannot adjust the signal strength?

I'm hoping in our house we only need one (the one downstairs).

We found there was a Sky Dish here so we are hoping we can put Sky Q in the Bedroom and watch Sky on the Old Box downstairs.. not sure yet.

Engineer has been out, reckons the wireless signal is "very good". I pointed out that yes, often it is. But when it isn't every wireless device in the building starts playing up.

He shrugged, replaced the sky q mini box, and then laughed at the fact that some other engineers are having to be retrained.

You can't do this - the LNB is not compatible with old sky box.

I was told before by someone can't remember who, if there was a Sky dish and wiring i could use a Sky box from another multi room setup? But it wouldn't be integrated with Q.

Is anyone else being given a completely crazy leadtime for Sky Q installation? I've just been given an earliest slot on 18th *NOVEMBER*, which is infuriating given that it's to replace my just-deceased HD box, and I'm paying Sky the thick end of £120 a month for all my TV, broadband and phone services.

Their only suggestion was that they might be able to get someone to come out to fix my HD box in the interim, crazy given it will have a lifespan of 2 months until I put it on eBay / in a skip. So far it's just reinforcing my impression of disastrous existing-customer service from Sky, as I suspect new customers aren't being asked to wait a few months to sign up.
Mine was quoted at 4 weeks I think, its actually being done tomorrow at last!

On a side note, depending where you are in berkshire, I will have 2 spare Sky+ HD Wifi boxes for £20 each in slough tomorrow!
waited more thsn 2 months for my install....got cancelled on the day due to engineering overunning on previous job. "don't worry CS will phone you today to re-book". So I think they'll work me in ASAP.

5 bd weeks for a re-book!

If they don't touch the existing dish you could, but usually they'll take it down and replace it with a new dish and LNB.

You could request a Hybrid LNB which has the older output, you'll need to say you want to use it with FreeSat, obviously not an older box from another property!

OK - Wicked, do I need to request this ahead of time? or will the guy fitting it just have either/or.

It's not the end of the world, we could always just have a second Sky Q box instead.

As I said I don't think it's due to be installed until the 2nd week of Nov :-)

You'll need to request it, even then the installer might not have one!

After having Q you'll hate going back to the old interface, it's so dated. I can't see a reason why you'd not want a mini.

I don't expect you'll get a hybrid LNB.

I have Sky HD multi room at the moment and we have just bought a tv for the kitchen and I was going to link it up to one of the Sky boxes with a coax into the RF port but then I read about Sky Q. Can anyone tell me if I will be able to use my existing black twin coax (. the type for HD ) as I've recently had an extension built and I chased in all the cables and really don't want a new cable run. I take it I would need a new dish installed though. Can anyone help with an answer to my question?

Thanks Simon.

No cables required for the mini boxes, no new dish either unless the old ones a bit knackered. Just the LNB is changed.

Dunno, the bit on an arm which the dish focuses on!

Low noise block and does as stated above - the advent of Q means homes with three or more HD boxes won't need octo LNBs with six to eight cables running from the dish!

Ah ok thanks.

After reading through this whole thread it's put me off getting Sky Q due to the amount of people having problems with it. Doesn't seem that reliable.

Trouble is forums are only ever full of people with problems. If your home network and satellite signal are good Sky Q is pretty rock solid. It seems a bit more susceptible to poor signal and a bad network obviously effects the multiroom side of it.

However, it's so much better than Sky HD was, it's just much more pleasant to use, especially if a lot of the stuff you watch is on demand.

No problem with my Broadband, I'm on fibre to the cab ( BT though not Sky )and I am an Openreach broadband engineer. Never seem to have any problems with my multi room HD setup but thought I would just upgrade to the latest Q system.
