Is there any reason to take the 2tb Q box over the 1tb version?
I understand the obvious specs on the Sky website and won't be going 4K or need the extra storage or recording capabilities, is there any other driver to pay the extra?
Cheers, Steve.
The 2tb box can record more programmes at the same time and also stream to more devices at the same time in addition to ultra HD.I understand the obvious specs on the Sky website and won't be going 4K or need the extra storage or recording capabilities, is there any other driver to pay the extra?

TBH for the difference in price it is a no brainier.
Edited to correct atrocious spelling and grammar.

You can't the lnb was changed and the old box will not work. That's what I have been told by sky on the phone.
depends on the lnb that they replaced it with - some are hybrid..... (and I have my old sky dish as well :-)).Anyone know when channel favourites will be rolled out, if at all?
and will the old box work with the new viewing card, or with its old one, or not at all?
ta.

A form of favourites is on the roadmap, but not for a while. Possibly be here before the end of the year, but no guarantees on timescales.
very bizzare.I design systems like this for a living, and whilst the good bits of this are good, it's a pretty poor version to have released, tbh. It wouldn't make MVP in my company. Basic usability is poor; scrolling through loads of channels to find the ones you want is awful, search is slow with no shortcuts, channel browsing poor too. Not enough focus on the users, too much on the trendy tech.

It is possible and often better to connect the router to your main Q box as it will decrease the total metrics between everything in the mesh considerably due to the lower attenuation in a line When compared to wirelessly.
I'll need to get an Ethernet cable, seems the sky installer has took the one from the HD+ box.I also notice there's a option within the setup/network menu to hardwire it

Favourites is still scrolling through a list, search is the way to find things now, and soon voice search will make it even better in theory.I design systems like this for a living, and whilst the good bits of this are good, it's a pretty poor version to have released, tbh. I never really saw the purpose of favourites, as I don't want to watch a channel I want to watch a specific program, something Q is more geared to, less about live TV more about programs on offer.

Not sure what's wrong with channel browsing either. The live preview of the other channel is quite useful.
Sky had a lot of usage data from the Sky+HD boxes, so knew how infrequently the likes of favourites were actually used and hence put them further down the development roadmap than other more interesting features (voice search/control, for example)

Totally agree- used favourites all the time and it will make a big difference to usability when introduced. The search function is clunky, scrolling the letters etc. Also it's one thing having "all channels" but then if you want to watch say BBC 1 you then have to find the HD channel. The fact that it doesn't open at all channels when the home button is pressed is another poor featureI design systems like this for a living, and whilst the good bits of this are good, it's a pretty poor version to have released, tbh. I know we are all tech gods on here who can remap our 335s using nothing more than a raspberry pi running kodi, but many people out there are not. They just want to watch and record some TV. The original sky plus system was brilliant in its ease of use but as each generation goes by these systems become more complex and run the risk of alienating the core users.
The current reliability issues with q may well push people away or start the thought process of "this is expensive and it's not working what else is out there? "

That is an issue with the BBC who don't want the HD variant to be channel 101 as they still show SD only regional variants.craig1912 said:

That's where you're going wrong, use the number keys like writing a text message on a mobile phone in the 90's, wayyyyyyyy quicker and as said above, I usually only have to put in 3 letters max before I find what I'm looking for in the list to the right. The search result prediction system for partial matches is astounding in my opinion, the weightings given to most recent or most viewed programmes must be spot on because the thing I'm looking for is usually in the top 2 or 3 results.
