Topfield used to make a superb PVR back many years ago. It was absolutely fantastic, not sure if they do anything now, but having just had a look on their forum, it seems something called a miraclebox is the closest thing to it around today.

I actually miss my Topfield.

The Latest Humax Freeview HD+ box the FVP-4000 is looking Good. Three tuners so you can record and watch more channels than ever before. The HDR-FOX-T2 also had good reviews. The HDR-2000 wasn't considered as good.

So pardon the ignorance:

if I buy this deal I get the box and 6 months of sky entertainment to get started, and I can add on sports and movies

if I look at monthly costs here: http://www.nowtv.com/
entertainment +£7 per month
movies is +£10 per month
sports is +£32 per month

weirdly here the "value pack" prices are different - http://www.nowtv.com/box
entertainment +£8.33 per month
movies is +£12.50 per month
sports is +£35 per month

what is the point of these 24hr passes - are they really only 4 days of sport for £25?

You could also buy 2 boxes and add both vouchers (e.g. movies+entertainment) to your single account, and use both boxes simultaneously if you want.

The second URL you found is if you're buying a box + voucher. More expensive than the Amazon offer.

These deals come up periodically and it's a cheaper way to use NowTV than ongoing monthly payments. I guess there's a lot of unboxed devices / devices being ebayed, as the value is in the vouchers.

No idea re. sports, as I've never used one of these vouchers.

Sticks.

I thought I'd revive this thread rather than start another. Some interesting info, thanks.

I've got BT BB linked via ethernet to the Humax box it came with and a Panasonic TV. It's main use will be for recording, I'm not bothered about HD so much.

Is there anything obviously wrong with this one? I like the idea of a phone app to program it, though the comments about software glitches put me off. https://www.johnlewis.com/bt-youview-smart-500gb-f...

Can I record two programmes at once with that? I know I can with this, but my Humax hasn't been that good tbh.

Or would buying a Panasonic mean I'd have one remote?

Any thoughts welcome, thanks.

I bought one of those BT Ultra HD youview boxes off ebay the other day (DTR-T4000), cost me £50

I'm actually mildly impressed by the interface and just how well it works. Also has a 1TB hard drive as well.

Perhaps worth looking out for one of those?
