I'm not sure if this should be in Home Cinema & Hi-Fi or Homes, Gardens and DIY. smile

The TV (40-inch weighing 9.1 kg/20 pounds with VESA 100 fitting) has to be positioned at one end of an external wall of plaster over thermal blocks. Ideally, the mount needs to both tilt and swivel because of the TV position in relation to the viewing position/furniture/windows/doors. I'd prefer the wall plate to be as large as possible to spread the load over multiple fixing points.

There's a huge range of prices for superficially similar mounts.

Any recommendations for a particular mount, or at least a manufacturer and/or type of mount (e.g. plate or framework bolted to the TV, single or double arm), at a reasonable cost?

EDIT: I should add that it won't need to be moved once it's been adjusted to the required position.

I found the full motion Sandstrom very good. Got mine from PC world.

Its not the bracket that you should worry about its the fixing to the wall, either use Rigifix as below or insure you hit a stud with at least two fixings (especially for a cantilever bracket).

Use these.... Rigifix

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was about to ask about the best fixings in Homes, Gardens and DIY. smile

It's not "dot & dab" or plasterboard over battens, but I suppose that Rigifix will still work?

I wouldn't bother with the Rigifix for anything other than dot and dab over masonry walls (brick/block) as this is what they're designed for.

For what you're doing you want a fixing specifically designed for the type of thermal block that is under the plaster. A 10kg TV really isn't that heavy in the grand scheme of things especially if that load is being spread by a mount with four or more fixing points. You could drill and resin bond studs into the wall if you were really paranoid about it but it's complete overkill.

If it's thermolite blocks then use coach screws and plugs. Ensure you use the correct size drill. Usually a 10mm.

IMPORTANT! Do not use the hammer on the drill, just drill into the block without, this will give you a nice tight hole ( mmmm...)

Make sure you hammer the plugs in deep enough into the block, ensure the screw will fully go into the plug to open it up.
