I use a projector for presentations on a board about 12ft by 12ft with an oldish sanyo projector. Are the newer LED projectors up to the same standard of brightness and how long do the bulbs last in them?
thanks

The brightness is measured in Lumens, see what your current PJ spec is and compare with newer.

In my fairly limited experience LED projectors have come quite a long way in the last 5 years or so. I recently bought a new stop-gap one for a boardroom, at £250 it (an Epson) was cheaper than a new lamp for the old one and it's really, really good. Bright, sharp and even displays motion Ok. My friend had an old high-end Sanyo, about 10 years old, I bought a new Epson 6100 (pretty entry level)...used it for a while, we went to watch a film on his and you just couldn't do it...it was all dim and murky in comparison.

You haven't said what you ant it for, in a dark room or with lights? For presentations or watching films? Someone recently asked about buget PJ's on here and there's some good advice in that thread...he was asking for a village hall.

it's for classroom school teaching so not in a dark room. So brightness important.

Epson make some excellent projectors for classrooms, the lampless units mean there is less running cost, they are lighter so easier to install.

Depending on the room will dictate what brightness you need, basically the ANSI Lumens are what matter, the more ANSI lumens the brighter the image.

So how bright is the room?
Does it get direct sunlight?
Does it have a projection screen or white wall?
Does the screen suffer from direct sunlight?
How far will the projection distance be?
How big will the projection be?
Will the teacher have to present from in front of the projector (Blocking the image)? Consider Ultra Short Throw?

There are a a lot of considerations to make including how is it going to be mounted? Who is going to do it?

This might help,
The site lets you select a projector, change the screen size and suggests a brightness level.
