Hi all,

Perhaps an unusual request this, seeking input from the PH experts.

I have a small bedroom TV (a bit council, yes?) with rubbish speakers. I'd like to take either HDMI or optical from that TV into a stereo for better sound. In addition - and because I don't want boxes everywhere - I'd like to be able to play CDs through this device as well and if possible, either internet radio, DAB or streamiung (AirPlay or bluetooth) from iPhones too.

I guess then my requirements are:
1. Must have HDMI or optical in.
2. Must have CD player.
3. One of internet radio, DAB, or streaming from iPhones.

Budget, say £200?

I'm having trouble finding something to do this. Can anyone recommend something please?

Cheers, Steve.

We have a Sony HT-XT1 in the bedroom under a 32" TV (in an ex-council flat - council yada yada). Has 3x HDMI inputs, HDMI ARC output, Bluetooth and analogue and optical inputs. Doesn't have a disk player built in but you could add a small disk player like a Sony BDP-S1500 along side it and get DVD and BR playback into the bargain. I have a Chromecast Audio plugged into the analogue input too as it's more convenient (and higher quality) than BT.

Really convenient form factor as it doesn't take up any more space than the TV itself. Can be had for ~£180 now I think.

Do you need speakers as well?

This deal at Richer Sounds looks good, but a little over budget: http://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers/... For wireless audio get a Bluetooth receiver, a Chromecast Audio, or an Airport Express for Airplay (the last two have optical outs).

Thanks Mackie, I'm looking at one of those now. My requirement for a CD player has just cracked I think!

Lostmotel, yep, I saw that as I'm currently spending a lot of time on Richer Sounds website as my main surround amp has failed too. I think though with the extra speakers being separate - though of course far better - it would start to be quite dominating in the space and perhaps not missus proof with the Airport/Chromecast in the mix.

Yeah that Denon combo will likely sound way better for music, it's a compromise. There are various DSP presents and you can adjust the bass level to your liking. The virtual surround effect is pretty decent too.
