Ok...
At Chateau T, I need a number of speakers to cover the garden.

Now everyone and their auntie makes them

But... if I want a 5,1 or even a 5.0 system.... who makes weatherproof speakers that will last a good 10 - 20 years...

Thank you in advance....

If budget is fairly large the Sonarray from Sonance is superb, eight satellite and a sub and capable of covering large gardens. Otherwise on the more traditional front the AM1 from B&W is excellent.

Since when did PH members need to pay RRP on AV Kit??

There are several very friendly AV Supplier types on here who are always willing to help out. All you have to do is hunt them down and ask!

Polk

This is my site, so disclaimer there! But we sell a lot of Polk speakers, they're well priced, well rated and we've had no complaints.

They do a nice garden satellite speaker and a subwoofer.

sat speaker; http://kitchenbathroomradio.co.uk/speakers/speaker...

sub; http://kitchenbathroomradio.co.uk/outdoor-garden-a...

Niles are also good, but a lot more expensive.

Q Acoustics do some nice rock speakers http://kitchenbathroomradio.co.uk/outdoor-garden-a... no sub woofer though but you could use a Polk or Niles etc...

What are you connecting them to?

Are you hiding them? If so, JBL control ones can be picked up for peanuts (think 60-70 quid a pair) and will last for a long time before dieing. They're not officially waterproof, but Disneyland Paris uses them as outdoors seemingly fine...

They sound bloody good, the sub adds a great depth to them, installed a set on a roof garden and you can hear it clearly from the other side of the lake!!!!

I have a pair of Monitor Audio CL50's on my roof terrace connected to a Sonos Connect Amp (50Wx2)

http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/products/climate/cl5...

The are around £250 which suited my budget.

I'm happy with the sound but am surprised how much power I need to pump into them to get decent sound levels, the volume slider on the Sonos app has to be much higher than when powering a pair of ceiling speakers indoors. Don't underestimate the amplifier power you are going to need for speakers in an open space. I did consider a digital PA amplifier like a Behringer INUKE but thought I'd try them on the little Sonos Amp first and its been deemed plenty loud enough by the other half so no big power amp required.

I have these and they're excellent, plenty of volume for a party and good sound quality.

Just a run off the mill AV amplifier. Stereo output is fine.

If you need a lot of speakers, say 8 or more, it could be worth using a 100v line system. Each speaker is fitted with a transformer so you don't need to match the impedance or mess about with serial wiring. The downside is you will have a mono system, but you are never going to get great stereo separation in a garden and you probably wouldn't want it anyway.
The Apart Rock 20 speakers are about £100 each, http://cpc.farnell.com/apart/rock-20/speaker-outdo...
The Pulse VS360 is a 360w 100v amplifier for about £200, http://cpc.farnell.com/pulse/vs360/slave-amplifier...
Set the speakers to 10w (plenty loud enough for a garden) and you can install 36 of them, wired in parallel from a single 2 core cable such as http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-power/2182y-0-75mmblk10... for about £40 per 100m roll.
If you have sheep or rabbits they will dig up and eat the cables!

This

I have 2 pairs of AM-1s in my garden the sound quality is excellent, better than Bose (IMO) which I also sound checked. Powered by an amp from Richer Sounds with a Sonos input.
