Freesat is for losers when it rains heavily because you don't get a picture

Err, no. Completely wrong. This may be an internet myth, but you're welcome to pop in any time it's raining and see for yourself that it makes no difference.

Atmospheric conditions were always a problem with Sky reception where we lived, but that might've been an issue with the age of the kit and the LNB was probably ancient and under-equipped. I seem to recall to record and watch channels at the same time you need a quad LNB, which most are these days but not always fully wired.

Freesat vs Freeview = there's really bugger all in it unless you specifically want a channel you can only get on one or the other. I didn't want to decorate my house with a satellite dish when an aerial install was already in place, so just upgraded the antenna and it's always been good as gold.

Who told you that? I've had Freesat for donkey's years, before Freeview HD and I've never had a problem, ever. Just reinforces my POV that Freesat is for winners.

My Freesat does break up if it is absolutely torrential, the sort of rain you get once or twice a year.

No YOU are wrong. Mine works fine and has done for years on all conditions. You're obviously doing it wrong.

Just to add, I had my dish installed by a professional and I've never had Sky.

Certainly recall my Sky playing up in certain unusual weather conditions...

That was a large commercial dish on the roof of my apartment.

Decent sized dish and LNB - the only times we've had drop-outs were when equipment needed replacing, or a tree grew a little bit big.

We've got a Samsung which has been solid and reliable. You never get firmware updates, but there's nothing basically wrong with it.

When I dropped Sky earlier this year I went for TV from PlusNet. £5 a month, includes extra channels on top of Freeview but they come down via t'internet - IPTV I think. You can add more channels for not much cost (although not great when Sky removed Fox). Not sure if you need to be a PlusNet customer though. They do a couple of boxes, I went for the PVR version normally £50 but I got it included. I get on ok with it, only thing I didn't like was having to use homeplugs at back of the TV for the IPTV as doesn't have wifi.

I've got a Humax 500gb one bought it brand new from Richer Sounds, its not bad but does seem quite slow occasionally switching between menus.

I have found an issue as well where when using C4 on demand it sometimes freezes mid programme and won't let me restart from the beginning again.

Ha! First work problems....

I moved house six days ago and so far I have managed to get the sum total of one TV up and running. I coaxed it into accepting a signal off one of the many mysterious AV cables that sprout from the walls of my new place. It's the smallest TV I've got and it's in the furthest corner of the largest room. And I haven't got my amp and speakers hooked up.

Watching the footie last night was like going back to 1976.

I've got the main system up and running. The Humax Freesat is doing it's thing just fine. Very happy with it. Fast, easy to use, very good UI. And FREE TV! Happy days.
