I am thinking of starting up the sale of the above.

Basically it would be for a choice of TV Cabinet with a TV, Playbar, SUB and Play 1 Rears, Blu-Ray, HDMI Matrix, Control System, Options for Sky or Virgin, BT etc, Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire, One Remote controls all including Two or more floor lamp switch dimmers (wireless) Fully automated with scene control. iPad and iPhone and android control as well. Option for control away from home including holiday modes.

My idea would be to build this at the unit once an order it placed and deliver it 90% ready for the client 1 week later.

I would expect prices at around the £8k mark however this includes a TV at £1500 ish, which could be left off if required.

Custom options I would quote separately based on the above.

Can anyone see a market for this?

Thanks

I'm sure there is a market for it but one that is already saturated with supply.

There arent many people out there that will pay that sort of money for something that isnt unique to them, especially when it only includes a Sonos 5.1 system that they can see the price for anywhere on the internet.

If I was customising a solution and installing it there are far better systems for the cost of a sonos 5.1 system.

Thanks Vex,

The idea was based on being a simple clean install at someones house. System virtually ready when installed. I would agree putting in an AVR would be better but then cables would have to be run increasing the on site time. I was suggesting putting in Control4 as remotes are good, I can program this so add the unique side. My concern is the limited market, however how many London crash pads would this be perfect for? Also fit for rentals where wiring options are limited.

Just an idea really.

I really don't think there's a market for that.

tech people/ audio/home cinema types that are willing to spend that amount will want something personal/ bespoke to them. probably have brands they like, systems they'd want to integrate/ have half the stuff already....

others that have that sort of money but want someone to do it- probably just want the biggest/ newest/ shiniest/ biggest name/brand to impress friends/neighbours.....

to me, what you propose is a good idea, but is too expensive to be mass market/volume but not bespoke/tech enough or high end to get real audio/cinema/ tech geeks going.

My thoughts exactly. The 'modular' approach won't work for these reasons.

It sounds great but it'll never work. I sell home audio systems for a living and EVERYONE wants or needs something different. We package up simple systems for the most common uses but would never package up to the extend you're thinking.

You'd need to have options on everything to keep people happy, which completely defeats the object. One person will want LG, another Samsung, another Sony..... that's just the TV....

A lot of time will be spent picking packages apart and trying to re-make them to keep customers happy.

Swapping the TV wouldn't have been an issue, there is little to no margin on TVs anyway.

This is the reason I like forums like this one. Asked the wider world and get my answer. I am sure that one or two people on here might like it, it just will not run.

Thanks all.

Sorry full of fail.

Anyone spending £9k on an AV system will want different components. To fit a different space, in a different room.

Some will want projectors, others floor standers or in ceiling/wall mounted speakers etc etc.

There might indeed be customers out there who's perfect spec is what you are going to build but business isnt about finding the 3 clients in the world..

There is very little margin in any of the kit you've mentioned, TVs, Sonos, Apple... You'd need to build in enough on the install to make a profit AND cover the inevitable back-up calls.
