I have two 500sq.ft open studio spaces which need a wireless speaker in each. Neither will have any furniture in, just empty spaces with art on the wall. Which Sonos is the one to go for? Two Play:3s are almost the cost of a Play:5 so wondering if the Play:3 will do the job.

Anyone got either/both? Opinions much appreciated.

Personally I'd choose 2 x Play:1s for the same price as a single Play:3 and set them up as a stereo pair.

Or the play 5, that has a great all round sound.

I haven't personally seen a need for a Play:3.
(I now have 6 x Play:1s, a gen 2 Play:5, sound bar and sub) can't fault the play:1s.

I guess it also comes down to what sort of music you'll be playing, and at what volume you want it to be played at... might be worth heading down to a shop that stocks them and having a listen for yourself to the different options available.

A couple of Play:5s it is then as I'll need the option of a 3.5 jack on occasion.

Thank you all for the help.

I've got a Play:3 in the dining room... wish I'd bought a Play:5.

I have x7 Play 1's around my home; unsurprisingly I would also suggest pairs of 1's.

Call your local Richer Sounds and try and get a demonstration booked.

Forget the 3, get the 5. Or a couple of 1's, but then the low freq's on the 5 are in a different league.

Does anybody have a Play 5 and Play 1 set up in the same room? Our kitchen is 35ft by 20ft with a Play 5 at one end and whilst it sounds great, I would like something at the other end to boost vocals etc... I would like another Play 5, but cannot justify the cost at the moment.

Mix and match seems to work fairly well, especially with Truplay (think that's what it's called)

We have ceiling speakers in the kitchen (Sonos Connect behind that) and a couple of 1s. Sounds fine.

Have the Playbar, sub and 2x 5s in another room and been very happy with both TV and music.

I've got a couple of 1s as a pair (open plan kitchen dining) and i'm pleased. Was going to add a sub and another paired up set in the lounge, but will wait till the winter for when we're back in that room.

Cheers pod. Room with the playbar, sub and 2x 5's must have some firepower! I think I'm gonna buy a play 1 and experiment with it in different rooms before I spend out...

Where is the best place to big this stuff?

Although Sonos frustrates the hell out of me, I do have a fair number of zones and units... I like the Play 1 more than I thought I would, Play 3 is a bit anaemic against Play 5 and a little pointless v. Play 1, Play 5s do seem to like to be in pairs to fill a space and the sub does make a difference.

Ended up buying a 5 2nd gen to test it out and absolutely loved it. Managed to get hold of the Sonos marketing head though a friend and they're now going to kit out the whole place for a bit of PR. Result!!

Now to try to return the one I bought without them noticing. Shameless hehe

How does the new Play 5 compare to the old one? I picked up what must have been one of the last 'old' Play 5s for the kitchen/diner. The plan was to see how we got on with it and buy another to make a stereo pair, but then they brought out the new one.

Exactly what I tried to do last Christmas. Be warned - you cannot match old and new Play 5's as a stereo pair redface

Another disturbing recent discovery is that Play 5's in particular seem to be increasing rapidly in cost. I'm sure I paid sub £400 for my last one, now they're around £450 or more in many outlets.
