This is my eBay-special setup, put together for about £800.

Cambridge Audio StreamMagic processing lossless CD rips.
Arcam Alpha 10 Power Amp
Roksan Kandy K2 standmounted speakers.
Decent quality interconnects & speaker wire etc but nothing else too fancy.

Now, I could get a similar power amp for about £200 - or less if I were to drop down to an Alpha 9 or 8.

Question is, would I get any audible benefit from bi-amping this setup or would I just be wasting my money? I think my ears are OK but not "golden".

Hopefully below is an article by B&W on the benefits of bi-amping:-

http://www.hifiportal.co.uk/Articles/Article0013-B...

I have an Arcam based bi-amped system comprising Roksan Caspian cd, Arcam C30 pre, 2 x Arcam P35 stereo power amps into quite large floorstanding B&W CM4 speakers. The speakers take a good bit of power to get going but each amp delivers 2 x 100 watts into 8 ohms.

I'd try it if I were you and see if you find a noticeable difference.

I have an Alpha 8R powering the tweeters, and a 9P powering the mid/bass of each speaker (that is, 2x 9P's). Adding a single 9 to the 8 leads to a big improvement in control. The 2 9's are another step up.

As with everything, try it for yourself; if you buy another 10 and don't like it, you won't lose anything/much when you come to resell.

I wouldn't bother if I were you, passive bi-amping is a total waste of time & money providing your original amp can support the load.
If you want to upgrade the best thing to do would be to sell the amp & get a better, more powerful amp.
