Netflix. No Dolby 5.1 from TV to soundbar via HDMI. Optical?

Our telly (Samsung UE55F8000) is connected to a Yamaha YSP2200 sound bar via HDMI. If I use the Netflix app that's built into the TV, I don't get Dolby 5.1 via the ARC.
Would using an optical cable from the TV to the soundbar give me DD5.1 from Netflix?
Thanks.
Probably not. Most TV's (all I have ever had) only pass through a stereo signal via the optical output. Would using an optical cable from the TV to the soundbar give me DD5.1 from Netflix?
Thanks.

So it's working now, over ARC?
Yes! After much head-scratching I read the manual for the sound bar again. It has an LED which changes colour to indicate what sort of audio it's decoding. I now get an orange light for the audio from the ARC, which I didn't get before. Like a muppet I was expecting to see a blue light, but Dolby 5.1 doesn't qualify for blue according to the manual. Thanks for the tip about the telly, it was doing my head in.
