Hi chaps,

After a bit of advice regarding what and placement of Sonos Speakers. Just going through an extension at the moment mainly extending our kitchen further out and also adding a 'snug' behind the current lounge. It basically looks like this. It will be quite a nice size room once finished.

The rest of our house is already Sonos'd up in some shape or form (for instance I have a connect linked to my amp and floor standers in the lounge, bedrooms have Play 1's etc). However I'm wondering what to do in the extended kitchen/snug area and what to get.

I was initially thinking a couple of play 5s for the whole area (not sure on placement) but now I'm wondering if it would be better to separate the kitchen/diner with one group of speakers then add more to the snug area (bit behind the lounge with the TV/Sofa). Someone at work mentioned getting a Connect:AMP then using 4 ceiling speakers run off it.

Just wondered what you guys would go for?

Playbar under the TV and a pair of play1s in the kitchen.

yes that would work well although I'd be tempted to get a Play 3 for the kitchen (or 1 or 5) and then playbar as mentioned with two play 1s as surrounds as it looks quite a big area and one speaker (playbar) at one end of the room may not work that well.

Thanks both, was thinking play 5's either side of the bi-fold in the kitchen area pointing into the kitchen, then as you suggest a Playbar under the TV with possibility (at a later date) of a couple of Play 1's for surround.

Not sure if the Play 5's are over kill and whether it's better to have them pointing in towards the kitchen area or have them on the other side facing down the extension to towards the tv area.

I've got a playbar and 2 1's as surrounds and the sound is immense. Personally if I were to put speakers in the kitchen I would look at 2 1's instead of 1 3 if that makes sense!

I'm surprised the Sonos hate mob haven't arrived yet and said something like you haven't heard a proper sound system etc...

As much as anything it may depend on what furniture/windowsill/table space you have and are therefore willing to give up to the units.

But on the face of it: perhaps a pair of 1s in the kitchen, one 1 in the dining room, pair two 5s with a Sub (to misquote ITMA "don't forget the Sub, Sir") in the snug.

Sonos fascinates and frustrates me in equal measure (and we now bridge from Sonos via a Connect into our B&O set up that we continue to expand which has calmed me down...) but I do like the depth that the Sonos Sub gives even when it's a zone with the volume low.

I've always stuck 2 big ceiling speakers in my Kitchens. However I went to a house party last year who had much smaller speakers but 6 of them. This enabled them to have the volume lower but still fill the room. So during parties etc no-one was getting blasted by music but everyone could hear it.

Why not? Just out of interest.

I just paid £156 for a barely used one and it's excellent for the room I've got it in.

General consensus on the Play:3 (that I have read, which concurred with my demo) was that the Play:1 is very good, the 5 great for quite a large area, but the 3's sound weak.
Most people prefer 2 x play:1s (added to which you can join them to be stereo pair...)

But if you are happy, then that is really what matters!

ok - that's alright then. I'm delighted with it, and now looking for a play 1 for the dining room.
