Hi All,

I want a 50"+ TV for the games room, mostly for the kids to watch their TV channels and playstation stuff?

Why is this sooooo cheap?

I bought a cheap flat-screen telly once - a Hanspree. Utter utter ste despite good reviews from brain-dead members of the public.

Never again.

It is incredible to think a screen this large can be purchased for a small sum like that.

The panel is going to be lower quality than an equivalently sized sony KDL or panasonic TX - but then it is 200-300 quid cheaper than those.

In addition it isn't a "smart" tv so no internet access for streaming etc. Many people wouldn't care about this in the slightest.

The advent of 4k has probably also helped in pushing prices for 1080p sets down.

All in all this TV would be perfect for a games room. Can't imagine the kiddies will appreciate the moderate (subjective!) uplift in picture quality from a screen twice the price.

Asda (I know, council) do their own, though branded as Polaroid, for about £250. I've got two smaller ones, had them for 3 and a half years and never had an issue with them. Only downside is they no longer sell electricals online so you have to call in to a superstore to have a look rolleyes

JVC are not a high end brand. They are the new-age Bush or Alba.

I bought a JVC tv about a year ago because it was cheap and I always remember them being a pretty good brand. I got it home and was devastated at how dire the interface was. There was no way I could lived with it so took it straight back to the shop.

So they are no longer the Japan Victor company of old.....I remember growing up in the 80's and it being a fairly good brand?

Yes, not the JVC of old!

I have a 29" JVC, been ok for 3 years. Cost £149.00 IIRC. Picture quality is ok, I would not have it for my main TV, but as a bedroom TV or for the kids room it will be fine. Lots of connectivity so good for all the external boxes etc. Mine even has a VGA.

I remember buying one of the first JVC plasma's when they came out many years ago. It was utter rubbish, kept on going wrong. Eventually swapped it for a Pioneer.

I think they are a very cheap brand now.. For TV's probably stick with the Samsung, Sony and Panasonic's of the world. Try your local Richer Sound, they always have great deals on.
